I do wonder if it is a hoax since I attempted to find trademarks going by that name and couldn't and also check out Siliconera's website and did not find an article with Yuji Naka saying such a thing.

Mr. Morris, you do have a point and the facts, this arcticle just doesn't seem very credible.

Being extremely excited about the very possibility of a new console being made in the depths of Sega, I can't help myself posting in this thread.
Unfortunately I have to admit that the source claiming about Fhyzercast isn't reliable. Nothing was mentioned at IGN by that time, neither was seen on some other referring websites.
However, quoting The X Files, I want to believe.
Welcome! Anyway if your looking for a SEGA console rumor that has some possiblity of being true, game insider Mr. Zachary Morris and his FGN news team were reporting back in April that SEGASammy has been planning a new console since 2009 a 512-bit project that goes by the codenames "Super System" and "NEPTUNE".

According to thier sources, NEPTUNE's CPU will be a completely original non PC CPU, a Hitachi ARM ISM mircoprocessor, also the machine will use a NEC Power VR 6 GPU and a Imagination Tech CausticOne RTU(Ray Tracing Unit) it will be the first and only next gen machine to be capable of Avatar-like graphics.

The console's arcade variant SEGADRIVE will be unveiled this summer. The arcade board will use a Fujistu Venus 8 CPU.

The machine will use Pioneer Blu Ray16 DVD as a ROM format as a anti piracy manner.

The price point for the console is said to be $300-350. SEGASammy has been working hard in R&D on developing cost cutting console development kits that can lower the budget on 3rd party games and will help bring the price of games from $60-70 all the way back down to $40-50.

Not to mention Naka-san has been hard at work at his game studio Prope since 2006. I doubt he would have time to helm a Sega console.

Thank you for additional information MrSega !
That sounds just wonderful ! I can't wait for the moment when Sega finally unveils that system.
So, that means we can wait for the possible launch somewhere in the second half of 2012 ?

Well, a short while back, Naka did say that he would definetly return to SEGA if they made another console and he wishes to work on a SEGA platformer again.

@Howling Fear. You're welcome!Super System/NEPTUNE would be projected to launch in Mid Spring 2012 in Japan, early fall 2012 Worldwide.

Also, SEGA did file a new hardware trademark earlier this called "KIDSPAD" which will be test marketed this fall and passed off as a family friendly I-pad. This device is set to be annouced when SEGA holds a full press release on Sonic Generations and unveils the game's shipping date.

You two bring up a great points here! But you must remember Sega was developing a console shortly after the release of the Dreamcast hoping it would be the successor! Not sure if it could relate to this at all or not, but just bringing it up!

@GameTester. You mean the project "Phoenix/LINDBERGH" right? The one that would have been based off of Lindbergh arcade hardware, would have been powered by a Intel Pentium 4 CPU, used a NEC Power VR 4 GPU, would have been capable of Shader Model 3.0, would have used either DVD ROM or HDDVD ROM and would have been called the SEGA Cosmic Smash and would have launched in Late 2005 in Japan, late September 2006 in North America and Europe which would have been six weeks ahead of Wii and PS3 and the one Hajime Satomi ordered scrapped in mid 2005, right?

The only problem this machine would have had, is that it would have been pretty costly to produce, the newly formed SEGASammy would have invested $1 billion into the project(which would have been 1/3 of the entire company's net worth), and although thanks to Shader Model 3.0 and no PPU, Cosmic Smash would have only reduced development costs by 10-20% which would have garnered its games price tags to just $55-65.

I am unsure where you got this information because it does not make any sense. HDDVD would not have been prepared to go into a console in late 2005. Toshiba and Sony were still attempting to reconcile Blu-Ray and HDDVD as late as August. The system would've had to be in production a few months before launch.

The Pentium 4 would've been very outdated at that point in time. About 5 years old. This wouldn't have been a cutting edge system by any means. It would've been a single core console, and it wouldn't have been able to compete with the 360 and PS3. A PPU wouldn't have even been considered at that time, as there was no commercial implementation until 2006. PPUs actually decrease development costs because they contain pre-made libraries for handling physics.
