Question: Will SEGA make a new console off of thier next arcade board?

My Opinion: No they won't. There is no proof that a new arcade board exists, although if Sega is developing a new arcade system it will probably be PC based like the Ring series of baords.
(That's better. Being on topic. Stating your opinion in a balanced manner.)

I don't have a problem with this post at all.

As for whether SEGA's next arcade will be PC based. I doubt it.

May shall be a very interesting month. SEGA is going to spill the beans on quite alot of stuff next month.

Hmm we'll have to see, I doubt anything will be announced on the scale that is being "rumored", I expect that Sega will reveal plans for the Sonic 20th Anniversary, maybe a few more games. In my opinion.

I'm not getting any sources from SegaLeaks at all.

These sources are from actual documents. The SEGADRIVE is a real arcade trademark that was filed in 2006. Unlike RINGEDGE, the mark has yet to be used. Henceforth it will likely be the name of SEGA's next arcade board.

I'm already on the verge of looking up some more patents.

The problem with looking at trademarks is that it could be for anything, and it could possibly never be used. The same thing goes for looking at patents. I mean, you're going to get information on how it's used, but, you don't know how it's going to be applied.

Since all you are relying on is these trademarks I figured I'd do some research of my own. I am going to compare the RingEdge and SegaDrive trademarks.

RingEdge

http://www.trademarkia.com/ringedge-77660351.html

It was filed on 1/30/2009 and Sega officially unveiled the RingEdge board at the 2009 AOU show the next month, this showed that for RingEdge Sega only filed the patent just before they were going to unveil the board.

SegaDrive

http://www.trademarkia.com/segadrive-78950666.html

The trademark for SegaDrive was filed 8/11/2006, that is almost FIVE YEARS AGO. Following the route that Sega took with RingEdge I would expect them to file a NEW trademark for any new arcade system they are currently developing, instead of using such an old one.

In summing up there is little to no chance that this SegaDrive trademark is going to be used for anything, its more like some old relic that Sega trademarked so that no-one else could use it.

Thinking about it, I wonder if SegaDrive was an abandoned name for PlaySega.com. It reminds me of Direct2Drive as far as the name goes. They were pushing PlaySega pretty hard for a while, with that Saturn-style USB controller.

The anwser is obviously,NO.

The SEGADRIVE trademark is still very active, it was registered in September 2007.

There's no description for web based gaming or any kind in the mark.

The G&S for the mark are: arcade game hardware, arcade game machines, coin operated game hardware boards, and electronic circuit boards.

There's no notice for "CANCELLATION" or "ABANDONED" on the trademark doc, it says "ACTIVE".

You obviously didn't read the description for the trademark at all, noir did you look it up. All you did was just exaggrate when you claimed it was just for anything and that it was abandoned and I just pointed out thats not the case at all.

Please go and look up the trademark.

Watch what I'm going to do here, because it's important.

You're right. I forgot that aspect of the trademark. See how easy it is to admit you're wrong? You should try sometime, it would make your life a lot more interesting.

You've posted that trademark millions of times, I've read it before, I just simply forgot that aspect of it. It's not that I haven't read it. It's that I've had to read dozens of trademarks you've posted.

Stu has a good point that RingEdge was trademarked right before it was announced though. If SegaDrive was still in active development, why would they have announced and released another arcade board if their strategy was to trademark right before an announcement?

The trademark is active. Okay? Cool. It doesn't really mean anything. It hasn't had any public usage for what 4, 5 years? Sega has active trademarks for most of their game franchises too, some that haven't had games released for years.
