Laser Re-Calibration Disc?

Post by the smrf »

Anybody with any familiarity with this? Is this what it sounds like? You just throw this disc in and it recalibrates the laser for you and you don't have to crack open the dreamcast?
I've seen an ISO download for it but I'm reluctant to download it because it seems like a trick to get me to download garbage.
Just wondering if anyone has tried it.
Thanks

Yeah, forgot to answer that in your previous reply in the other thread.

Just think about it. Can a disc turn a screw to change the resistance on your laser?...

It just helps you calibrate your lens to optimally read as many discs as possible.

You still have to turn the screw...

The discs you're referring to are two discs, one where the session starts at the extreme beginning of the disc, and the other at the extreme end of the disc. The idea is to calibrate your laser so it can boot both discs

I can reply with a link if you want them

I thought a potentiometer was required for calibrating the laser. There is no screw as such, just a wafer thin flat head piece of metal that easily gets warped when the slightest of pressure is applied.
This metal in my dreamcast at least did not turn even a bit, it just got flattened and warped.

I'm not convinced about this turning the screw business imo. Is the calibrating disc useful then and can someone give me a link to it?
My new Dreamcast is exhibiting very strange behaviours. It is randomly choosy as to what disc it will load.
I'm not gonna crack open my new dc as it ended badly with my last dc. Should the disc calibration be used in conjunction with another method? I wanna take mine to a repair shop for recalibration.
