I was talking to my wife last night about our hold house and I became nostalgic about my old Wondermega console, which she couldn't remember. I said, you know the one, the Sega one with the cool green and red lights...
....but the penny didn't drop. I then said, "the one with the Michael Jackson game" which she could remember in detail (she is quite the gamer too when it suits her) but she had no recollection of the system itself. I was then told, "I don't really care about the system itself just the games, I'm not a geek" and for the first time it got me wondering if we put to much stock in the actual console itself, looking for limited editions or obscure consoles to play the same games which could be easily played on a cheaper console? Or, in fact as it is our major hobby then attaining the coolest, exclusive consoles is cool and worth it as they can always be traded in, unlike regular editions, for what is usually a decent profit or at least equivalent of what you paid.

Re: Video game consoles, do they matter?
I had the same epiphany recently. It very much became seemingly irrational to be fond of obscure hardware. Newer hardware can run the same software. It's easier to use the newer hardware. There is Less loading. Wireless connectivity. Wireless peripherals. Customer support. The reasons really pile up.
How many of you are rocking walkmen and 8 track cassettes?

Well, your buddy is shooting himself in the foot. All those batteries expended do add up in cost over the years..mazonemayu wrote:actually I have a friend who is completely anti-technology & who still walks around with his walkman. this guy doesn't even have a pc or anything, he's totally hardcoreeverynewday84 wrote: How many of you are rocking walkmen and 8 track cassettes?

He's anti-technology and uses a walkman? Distorted ideas... He should live in a cave and hunt mammoths with his bare hands (spears are a kind of technology too)

Wait, they have mammoths in that zoo?
As to the topic subject, sometimes I'd like to be more of a collector and have the system itself, but I realize that I'm mostly a gamer rather than a collector, so it doesn't deeply bother me to play the games in newer systems or emulators (that work, otherwise I feel I should really get the system), although most of the times I get the feeling that in the original system the game experience could be better.
As to the nostalgia fix, when I'm not in the mood to take out the console system, I usually just play an emulator.
