Bought this (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B09Y62HWGL) generic usb modem on amazon because eBay shipping to Canada for any of the modems on the compatibility list is really expensive.
I saw 2 anecdotes of people sharing that these modems worked, and someone theorized that any 2 port usb modem had to be a hardware modem.
It works with my PC-DC Ubuntu laptop dreampi image from megavolt85, connects fine with XDP browser using a LVI without any configuration needed on the laptop.
Putting this out there as I haven't seen anyone talk about these modems and they're decently priced and seem to work with dreampi

Thanks for reporting. It's great to know there's another option.
Modems are only going become more scarce as the world forgets about dialup and telephony.

I have this same modem and it connects to DreamPi, but nothing more than that. Glad to hear it works for you though.
