Also since all KIDSPAD apps and IPs are rumored to be downloadable only like I-pad, it would make sense that getting western developers on board once its publicly annouced, since the device wouldn't launch until the fall and since it would be simple. You also don't realize that SEGA likely has already been giving development kits to publishers, the reason why there's been no public information is because its possible that SEGA made them sign NDAs. Which is not uncommon for SEGA.
SEGA does NOT joke when it comes to NDAs, They will sue anyone who violates the agreement.
As for NEPTUNE/Neptunia(if it is real) you seem to completely misunderstand SEGA's extremely miltary grade top secret amusment R&D policy. They devulge secret info to no one, except Amusment developers and a few select Japanese publishers. If NEPTUNE were to launch next year, public info wouldn't be revealed until early 2012. As for 3rd party development support, SEGA only gives its publishers about a year in advance in development kits.

As for PS4, There have been loads and loads of Playstation 4 sources across various gaming sites and none of thier informaton has been proven true noir has it been verified,(There's no PS4 or "Playstation 4"trademark, both PSX,PS2,PS3 trademarks were already filed several years before they were released, PS3's was filed way back in 1999.) don't you think that's kindof hyprocritical especially since your sure KIDSPAD isn't a game tablet when it clearly is?

Does sega even have a research and development department? I hope they are at least thinking of coming back, i hope they havent lost all hope and given up. Hopefully this kidspad will be sega's way of testing the market and see if people will still buy their hardware. I mean if microsoft and sony arent dropping consoles till 2014, then sega has 3 more years to think about coming back. Also, the wii 2 or wii HD is revealed at E3 this summer so we will see how much power it will have. Hopefully sega will decide that they can outperform nintendo and build a console similiar to it in power but appeal to both casual and hardcore audiences. Also, the wii 2 is rumored to have a 6in lcd screen on the controller similar to the vmu on the dreamcast and be able to play mini games. Sega please come back. If I was a billionaire, I would definitley give money to sega even if i knew their were losses involved.

What do you propose Sega is going to show on it when they announce it? "Uh...here's a Sonic game. Some old Genesis games too. Cool, huh?"

When Apple launched the App Store originally, they had several developers showing off games for the platform. Just like every console launch ever. Western developers are considered pretty integral at this point. Look at how many Japanese developers handed IPs off to westerners. Have you not read any of the lament coming from within the Japanese industry that they're falling behind?
You also don't realize that SEGA likely has already been giving development kits to publishers, the reason why there's been no public information is because its possible that SEGA made them sign NDAs. Which is not uncommon for SEGA.

Obviously the developers who spoke to Kotaku were under NDAs, which is why they're cited as anonymous sources. So that MS and Sony can't identify them. Sega actually doesn't take its NDAs too seriously. If you've ever see the G4 Icons for Sega Dreamcast, a gaming journalist speaks who wrote about the Dreamcast and forgot about his NDA. Sega just called up mad, and he took down the article.

If Sega was giving out development kits, it would've been known. They also would've needed to post job listings for things like developing an infrastructure to support something like a gaming tablet. They would need a game distribution network, so on and so forth. This is something Sega hasn't done before. They would need to hire outside help, and it would be obvious what it would be for in the job description.

If you ever read legitimate gaming sites, you would see that they often post news regarding the kinds of job listings that developers/hardware companies are posting. Don't say you can keep a job posting secret either; how would anyone find out about the job?
As for NEPTUNE/Neptunia(if it is real) you seem to completely misunderstand SEGA's extremely miltary grade top secret amusment R&D policy.
That's...rich to say the least. It's amazing that you and the allegedly three different people posting all this crap think that business is so cloak and dagger and industrial espionage and shit. You can't keep anything "military grade top secret" in business. You have to work together with so many different companies that information always gets out inevitably. Even Apple isn't airtight, and they're one of the most secretive companies around. Sega can barely sit down and make a decent video game, and you think they're managing to lock down an entire division and projects that would involve business transactions between multiple companies?

Besides that, Sega's research and development spendings are far too insignificant to support console development, unless you think four million dollars builds you a console prototype and a gaming tablet (hint: it doesn't.) Sure, those are last year's numbers, you'll say, but haven't these devices allegedly been in development since 2009?
They devulge secret info to no one, except Amusment developers and a few select Japanese publishers. If NEPTUNE were to launch next year, public info wouldn't be revealed until early 2012..
That's ridiculous to say the least. Sonic Generations rumors were flying around long before the game was announced, and they even had it right that the game would feature remakes of old stages in 2D and 3D.

Uh, what sites do you think are sources? Personally, I stray away from Wordpress blogs which are written by one person making things up as they go. I haven't heard any PS4 stuff so much as "it's on" then Sony saying "no it's not" and now this.

How is it hypocritical? The only Kids Pad information comes from a trademark you dug up, which does not confirm it to be anything other than a trademarked thing and some SegaLeaks speculation.

Kotaku is a legitimate news site who have proven many times to have legitimate sources providing accurate information.

SEGA's former home consumer R&D team known as Away-27 was disbanded in July of 2000. However I have good news, they regrouped in August 2007 under the name "AM 3 and AM4" it is my understand that the RING series boards were designed by them. interesting enough last summer, they were reformed in a seperate amusment hardware R&D division and were officially named
"SegaSammy Internatonal". Yu Suzuki himself is the chairman believe it or not.

Sega2k, I would advise you to listen for when SEGA annouces thier next arcade board. If there's NO mention of "Intel", "Nvidia" being involved in the arcade machine but rather "Hitachi,NEC,Fujistu and Imagination Tech" that means, there's a console.

In fact, SEGA is expected to annouce thier next gen arcade deal with IM in May.

@Comarade. Yes I know kotaku is a legit gamesite. I visit it all the time. PS4 is just a rumor. All game sites that report it, have been reported it as that since they cannot verifiy the information as fact.

And please don't get me started on NDAs. I know how they work, but SEGA is very very different. They will not let anyone violate an NDA agreement. They will waste no time in threating someone with a lawsuit. Someday, you will see what I'm talking about when someone leaks out top secret info on SEGA and is perscuted for it.

If I were you, I'd wait until May and stop trying to thoerize that your sure SEGA is never returning to the hardware business. KIDSPAD will be publicly revealed very soon and its best we focus on that for now. I'm not speculating on SEGA's next console because I have no legit info on what thier next arcade board will be powered by, you should do the same. Wait until the next board is annouced before you state any of your thoeries on why you think SEGA isn't returning to 1st party hardware and why they never will.

KIDSPAD is being announced in may, 13th i believe.

Even if it is only released in Japan, its proof that it's hardware.

Techincally, ringedge/wide IS hardware. So really, they ARE in the hardware business.
Remember 9/9/99 forever. Keep dreaming.

Hopefully it will be released outside of Japan.

Sigh  .. May can't come too soon. Then if all this conjecture about the KidsPad and Sega dropping out of 3rd party publishing DOES NOT come to pass then a certain "rumor" merchant will hopefully "cease and desist" in talking about them. We can but hope ...

@RiilihShimo - Well that is what MrSega is claiming is going to happen. There's been no official word from any mainstream sources and no mention of KidsPad from any of the legitimate game sites. I guess we'll have to wait till May to see if he is right or WRONG.

@stu. Considering the the trademark was just filed on March 11, and considering that SEGA Saturn was developed top secret without a shred of public information on it until May 1994 and considering that the KIDSPAD mark was filed on the day the Tsunami it makes sense why there's no public information on it or what it is.

There's no reason why I'm wrong on KIDSPAD since they JUST filed the trademark.
