Just to note, I believe what has NOT been written is that this game is only for DreamPi 1.5 (and up) only. I have Netopia and it's the ONLY game that does not even attempt to dial (just dead silence from the Netopia LAN/modem).
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Seems AFO requires a 7 digit number to connect. It wouldn't even attempt to dial with less.
There should be a definitive connection setup guide for AFO here. This game needs a lot of finesse to connect. Compared to other online DC games, there are so many more different configuration variables combined to have a successful connection

Re: Alien Front Online Server WIP *Edit: Now Online
Seeing as there are hundreds of succesful games being played so far I doubt its the servers at all - of course the occational hickups with UDP packets and such may occur but will not make the game unavailable to play. I suggest everyone forward the *right* ports to the *right* IP with the latest DreamPi setup from Kazade. We cant debug something that is not on our part (but will keep debugging ofc) and I suggest people with issues try every option so far mentioned including reinstalling the latest DreamPi and verifying their IPtables set of rules with the one that should already be included , but also read up on some Basic usage of iptables itself (like saving current rules and loading pre existing rulesets). The rule you need has been mentioned by Shuouma earlier, which is kindly hosting this on his VPS aswell as adding in alot of debugging features to more easily fix errors which AFAIK is close to none and not crashing once after deployment.
Keep in mind that the patcher disc is in progress by BlueCrab when he has the time and will be announced onced done - for everyone who uses something other than the DreamPi. I would however recommend using that particular setup for easier access to all/more (and probably soon to be revived) games and not just AFO.

Dont worked for me via dial-up classic phone, i tried ago minute and freezes just before get into the server. This with Utopia disc, on dreamshell or code breaker resets the console in the same moment hahahha.
My only way to play afo for now on a pal console is
dreampi 1.5 + dreamshell + Afo GD.
Would be great if this game and Chuchurocket could be dial-up directly plugin to the wall phone. More choices to other players and is a pre-jump for a DreamPi user. Who tastes DcOnline, sure that wants a DreamPi after all.
From the other side, the servers runs perfectly and im enjoying so much!!!

This is known bug mentioned at the AFO Page at the DC wikidot-site.-drez01- wrote:Seems AFO requires a 7 digit number to connect. It wouldn't even attempt to dial with less.

I believe Pcwzrd13 has a connection guide on his site and I disagree with you in that this game requires alot of finesse.
The IP is hardcoded in the game as in IPv4-format and not a hostname which is AFAIK 1/2 games that works this way.
An updated DreamPi image is available for you made by Kazade. Given your ISP or router is not screwing with you, once you put the DC in a DMZ and use either DreamPi or PC-Linux connection with the right single line rule for IPtables I cant see how this game requires alot of "finesse". For those who use a Teltone TLS - yes, you might have issues with the bug in the game that just sends you back to the main menu unless a valid number is entered for the DC to dial which is not an issue with say Viking Phone line simulators.
Other than that, as mentioned, BC's patcher disc is in progress (which was my fault for the delay given that both target OS and hosting location changed when Shuouma was kind enough to host it on his VPS).
So while some of you might be unfortunate with one of the above problems, about 100 games have been ran without ANY issues I cant really agree that the connection part requires alot when obviously most people that own the <50$ setup that is DreamPi connect just fine - and was really all I used myself and worked right away.

Re: Alien Front Online Server WIP *Edit: Now Online
How could it work without the patcher disc? The IP the game tries to connect to wont be redirected with just altering the DNS in your flash rom settings. That is one of the problems and was announced early on - Wikipedia also mentions that this was the reason for the game going suddenly offline in the first place along with Daytona USA, back in the day when Sega gave away a network block back to AT&T.Jako wrote:Dont worked for me via dial-up classic phone, i tried ago minute and freezes just before get into the server.

Ref: http://www.dcserv.orgWhile the game now works online and is about to get deployed, a new patcherdisc made by Bluecrab @ DC-Talk is in progress for those who do not run the DreamPI setup.

Doing it before i had fine surprises with next tetris or pba, thinking previously that they wont work. Very gratefull for the done job and how well it works!!! Say thank you is short for that big thing! XD
