My turn to ask for HELP!

Post by segata sanshiro »

Hey guys, last night while paying Grandia 2, after the battle with Melfice my Dreamcast died :(

The console turns on, i hear the laser searching for something but the disc is not turning... so i guess the motor is gone. Sometimes the brushes inside the motor flip and make it rotate erratically, but in this case it doesnt even attempt to move.

Im not a modder and don't understand anything about electronics beyond simple soldering.

Please can you give me some advice.

- can i try opening the motor and fix it?
- can i find a replacement online from another device or something (searched ebay and amazon with no luck)?

My Dreamcast thanks you in advance.

Replacing the whole lensblock is probably the easiest way.

Or you could splurge and buy a DCEMU to replace the lensblock... ;)

But just to be sure. The motor does absolutely nothing?

Not even a little push at the start?

Did you check with the cover off holding the little cover pin back?

Does the laser still work? You can still see the red dot in the lens?

I think he means GDEMU. It replaces the GD-ROM drive with an SD card reader so that you can play your GDI dumps without any of the problems associated with using an SD card reader attached to the serial port.
