Dreamcast games languages.

Post by Davidian09 »

Hello everybody. :D

Can somebody please tell me if the following japanese version games have english audio or subtitles? I'm thinking about buying them but I wanna make sure first.

- Sonic Adventure 2;
- Sonic Shuffle;
- Shenmue 1 and 2.

Thank you!

P.S: Sorry for some possible misspelling, I'm Portuguese.

nope, why don't you just get the PAL version, it'll be easier since you're from Portugal

I found the japanese versions of those games cheaper than PAL that's why I'm asking.

Are you sure Sonics don't have at least english subs? Because I have Sonic Adventure 1 PAL and I can change subtitles (English, Japanese, German, French and Spanish) and audio (English and Japanese). Or is this like a PAL feature only?

Shenmue 1 I already know that it only has Japanese audio with Japanese subs, but what about Shenmue 2? I heard that the PAL version has Japanese audio with english subs is the japanese version the same?

Anyway thank you for your reply and I'm sorry for being doubtful I just wanna make sure ;)

I think it is a PAL feature only as they do not speak all those languages in japan ;)

as for SM2 only the PAL version comes that way, that is why it is so expensive (well, it's not that expensive, considering what you get for that money :lol: )

what do you call cheap? I mean the PAL sonic games pop up on ebay for 10 euros every now and then...

For Sonic Shuffle I can get the japanese version for around £10-15 but the PAL version is like £30-50.

Shenmue 2 as you said is way more expensive.

And I admit that I only wanted the japanese Sonic Adventure 2 thanks to the 10th Anniversary version. This one isn't really price related since it's more expensive than PAL :D

taking shipment & customs into account, it'll be about the same in the end, only difference would be you need a bootdisk to play :lol:

besides, PAL games run best on PAL hardware & vice versa.
if you want cheap, why not just burn?

Well I heard that burned games aren't good for the gd-rom. I used to play burned games but after hearing about that I'm kinda scared now lol.

Is that so? so NTSC damages PAL hardware in any way or is it just like better performance with PAL software?

Oh and I've seen your collection and it's awesome! congrats :D

no, but PAL signal is 13% slower than NTSC signal > your games will run slower

If you play your PAL games on 60Hz, you won't have any problems running Japanese games on your European Dreamcast, heck they would play equally good as they would running on a JPN system.

I'm pretty sure the Japanese version of Sonic Adventure 2 can be run in English, I will try to double check for you later this week.

From the top of my head, also REZ has English support. Shenmue 1 and 2 most definitely do not have English support.

I'll try and check Sonic Shuffle tonight when my kids are in bed - otherwise my daughter will want to play it all night.
