I tried to convert my VGA signal to HDMI last fall with one of those cheap china converters, no luck! All i heard from people was that this was a waste of time and the output would be the same!
I refused to belive that, and bought a new one now.
This time i bought a more expensive converter (Still from china).
I received it today and connected it to my LG.
The result is amazing, really really amazing.
It outputs in 720p and its bigger diiference from VGA to HDMI then it was from Scart to VGA.
I switched between HDMI (720p) and the VGA(480p) and was shocked how much difference there is!
I recomend everyone to convert their VGA to HDMI.
Here is a link to the converter

The converter also has a component input, so if you have Nintendo Wii or other component equipment then you can connect that too:)

Re: VGA HDMI converter (Guide to heaven)
I have my DC set up via VGA to my 27m LED TV. I'm more than happy seeing my games displayed in ED 480p resolution.

Not surprised with the feedback thus far, but like you I also convert to digital and haven't looked back since

Me neither!
It really facinates me how stubborn the electronic experts are...
Like I wrote in the other topic, its strange that people spend all their money on DC, but refuce to buy a vga-hdmi converter:p.

Re: VGA HDMI converter (Guide to heaven)
Personally speaking, for me (and many hardcore players of a particular genre for that matter) its a bit more complicated. Since your're basically converting an analog signal to a digital digital (heck the mere fact the picture is being upscaled/de-interlaced etc.), there is sure to be input lag as a result. This may not be a big deal to many here but for me its a MAJOR deal! I play fighters and Shmups for the most part on not only my DC but other consoles as well. Input lag can really fuck up ones game especially for a genre were timing, accuracy and perfect execution are paramount! I just recently jumped in the HDTV bandwagon (as CRT TV 's do not suffer from input lag) but only after some very thorough reserch. Most HDTVs do not have any post processing enabled with their VGA port so there is salvation from that awful Lag. Unfortunately this applies exclusivley to the Dreamcast and Xbox 360 platform as they were built by default with the ability to output thru a VGA analog signal. Both of the consoles are connected to my TV via VGA and these two consoles are the most important to me as they get the most playtime from me. Playing my 360 from HDMI to VGA is a huge difference! I can barely setup my complicated combos with lag.really facinates me how stubborn the electronic experts are... Re: VGA HDMI converter (Guide to heaven)
Scandinavian, I've decided to give it a go, and grab a VGA>HDMI converter. A couple questions for you, or others with experience:
What was the first converter you bought, which you said was ineffective? I want to avoid getting the same one.
Which other converters are recommended? The one in the top post is sold out. (Only VGA>HDMI please)
Do these converters actually smooth out the image? Ie., add in lines of pixels? Some videos I've seen on youtube of DC captured in 720p look exactly the same as in 480p.

Re: VGA HDMI converter (Guide to heaven)
OK. Let's get a few things straight first. The reason your VGA to HDMI converter looks better for you is that the scaler in your TV apparently sucks. No matter what the input signal for HDTVs it will be scaled to the displays native resolution.
The difference you are seeing is the difference between an external scaler and the scaler in your TV. Many people prefer to display the DC at it's native resolutions of 480i or 480p in a capable monitor. That's what the "experts" are really saying. No scaling=better when the display is capable of displaying without scaling. Anything beyond that and you're dealing with a whole multitude of factors.
I'm glad that you found a scaler better than what's in your TV but don't call it a wonder solution that everyone should jump on and they're idiots for saying otherwise. It depends on each person's particular setup.
