Great idea! The SEGA Saturn is a very good console. You'll love it!redlion wrote:I would like to get into some saturn stuff. basically what i want to know is there a good website where i can read about it? i havent found a decent one so ill ask you.
Do you use a LCD TV? Composite cable or SCART.redlion wrote:I want a Ntsc us console

No, you must mod the console. Install a Mod Chip or do a "SWAP Trick". Open your Saturn and trick/tape the switch, which checks the CD drive (to prevent spinning discs while the CD lid open). After that you'll be able to start a burned discs with a "licensed" one. A picture is worth a thousand words:redlion wrote:and maybe someone here can answer this is the most important. is the system able to play "backups" like the DC? if not what is the easiest way? action replay or a chip or something like that?

Re: Lets Buy a saturn
Modding the system can be difficult in this day and age - most of the chips were designed for specific boards / versions of the saturn released, and most of these chips are very hard to find now.
It might actually be financially easier to just get a 3-in-1 or 4-in-1 action replay cartridge and buy Japanese games of those titles that are overly expensive in the US or European countries. Some games like Saturn Bomberman and House of the Dead can cost a small fortune outside of Japan, but most titles in Japan are damn cheap (1/4 the price for both of those games).
The better action replay cartridges are really a good investment - they offer extra memory and allow memory transfer from system-to-card, as well as some cheat functions (assuming you don't get the newer cheaper knockoffs that didn't assign the cheat codes per region).
The best part is the memory function, as the native memory of the Saturn is quite limited.

Re: Lets Buy a saturn
I used this guide to mod my sanyo Saturn http://www.segastyle.com/sanyo.html . Admittedly I was confused the first time I read through it and messed up the mod, but after looking through it again I was able to get it working. I used the racketboy modchip. I would say just make sure you get a saturn with round buttons if you want to mod it.
I use email for extra game save storage via netlink adapter b/c im cheap lol. It's easy enough to access though with the web browser though.

This is the simplest way to go. I have one of these memory carts and it works great.Macabre wrote:... Also, best to use a memory cart for backing up your save on because the onboard internal memory of the Saturn is volatile, meaning everything gets erased if the replaceable CR2032 battery dies or somehow becomes dislodged.

I do not believe there was ever a cartridge that allowed backups to play on the system. If there was, I'd like one please.
