Vmu keeps asking for date and time to be set

This is a brand new vmu. I have gone in and formattedit but it does not seem to help it says there are 200 free blocks but when I try to start a new shenmue game I get a message saying there is not enough memory.

Does this happen only with shenmue?
I can't see where the problem is, this is something new to me.

It is from 2000 according to the box. Maybe thTs why
