Any good Dee Dee Planet reproduction copies?

Post by JomSpoons »

Usually I don't care at all for repros, I prefer to either get the original game or just burn my own CD-Rs, but Dee Dee Planet is a rare exception for me. Since the game is official and complete with no retail copies in existence, I would really like to own a reproduction copy that I can put on the shelf alongside my other Dreamcast games. That said, I've not been able to find any good quality reproductions for Dee Dee Planet. I asked a couple Dreamcast repro sellers a while back but neither of them had made a Dee Dee Planet repro before. One of them offered to, but they were going to use this admittedly poor packaging so I declined. Does anyone know where I could possibly get a good quality reproduction copy of Dee Dee Planet? Thank you!

Be sure it's burnt from DC-Live so can play over DreamPi, also musics don't play on rev0 Dreamcast

Honestly if you can't find anyone who produces a decent reproduction of the game, you're probably better off making it yourself. With a CD burner, some Taiyo Yuden discs, and a decent printer with a disc tray, you can make a top-quality repro exactly how you want it, and you'll have all the kit to do the same for any future discs too.

I had a bad experience with a Dreamcast repro seller, where they used a sub-standard disc (Ritek I believe) and poor quality artwork on basic paper, and this was despite them having plenty of positive feedback. It encouraged me to buy all of the above gear, and its allowed me to produce some excellent quality reproductions of my own, not to mention it let me print my own box artwork for several of my Dreamcast games and my entire Saturn collection, thus saving me a fortune on games I simply can't afford and boxed Saturn games. It's a worthwhile investment!

Ritek discs aren't bad by any means.

Never really considered getting a printer with a disc tray, not a bad suggestion! If you have any recommendations on a specific model of printer I will definitely take a look.

I have a US console but I'm looking for Japanese packaging for this particular game since we know what the cover of the Japanese release was gonna be at the very least. I'm not terribly picky though.

Yep, I will for sure use the network patched version of the game.

I use a Canon TS8351a printer, with the discs I use being a mix of silver Taiyo Yuden and white Verbatim DataLife Plus inkjet printable discs, depending upon how I want them to look (the silver Taiyo Yudens are a little closer to commercial Dreamcast discs, they're silver but not completely reflective). I then use Koala double-sided glossy photo paper for the case art (120gsm for DVD cases, 180gsm for jewel cases).

I've been very picky in the past with how my artwork turns out and the quality of the printer and materials used, and this setup produces superb results - I really couldn't be happier. Hopefully some or all of this is useful to you!

Some years ago there used to be a good few folk doing reproduction Dreamcast stuff, I remember getting a really brilliant quality Half-Life and Propellor Arena (in the box set with MIC!) from Assembler. It seems that since the GD-Emu, the call for repros has died down but I, like you would love a Japanese style 1:1 of Dee Dee Planet and also stuff like Doom 64, GTA III and Sonic Mania when they have final versions.
It's a shame that as a community here, we couldn't do a fund raiser of sorts where we all chip in and get a modest batch of discs printed up exclusively for here like Assembler did in 2012 for Geist Force.
