Help with patching SRAM into Force Five (and possibly other Atomiswave GDIs)...

Post by SolidSonicTH »

Guess it's time I ask for help directly.

I want to configure my Force Five GDI before I go to an event this weekend but every time I dump the SRAM file from Demul and patch it into the Force Five GDI using dd the settings just end up being defaulted instead of being picked up (resulting in not just my settings not carrying over but the game won't even start in Free Play anymore). I checked the Force Five ROM to make sure it was saving the settings in the SRAM file and it does indeed preserve them run-to-run so I know I'm patching in a file that has the correct settings.

Has anyone ever done this successfully? Do you have any guidance?

I patched the cover file into my copy. What are you trying to change in yours?

Difficulty (Very Hard), round count (3), and damage level (110%). May have been one other thing.

I honestly don't know why your copy doesn't work. I was able to change the button mappings with sram in my copy. I'm not in a position to help you at the moment. Maybe someone else can.

I'm wondering if the ROM I'm using to generate the SRAM file is the correct one.

Is there like a checksum or hash I can verify against to make sure the ROM is the correct one for patching the GDI with?

Sorry for late reply. You must use atomiswave roms that are compatible with demul. Google search demul romset.

Would Force Five be included in a ROMset? It's unreleased.

Maybe it never worked with changing those specific sram settings, considering it is Naomi net-boot rom?

EDIT: Tried it (new sram insert), same thing happens to me - sram is initialized to defaults on startup from Dreamcast.
Used START+A+B to enter configuration on game from Dreamcast using original Force Five files. Changed values, but now have random lockups.
