Dreamcast with DMZ can't play online (Other devices in DMZ works great)

Post by noobaso »

Hi all,

I am an active Dreamcast online player since some weeks ago I changed my ISP provider, since then, I can't play online with my DC.

The problem is that I did a DMZ to my Dreamcast and is not working, but if I do a DMZ to another device I works perfectly, with any ports. For this reason I decided to open a DMZ to a Mikrotik router for doing some tests.

In my Mikrotik router I forward the port 17219, but there was no traffic, so I decided to try with nmap from computer to see if there were any ports opened for the private ip of my Dreamcast, in this case 192.168.10.97 (I had oppened Worms World Party), but there weren't any ports opened.

As you can see in the picture my Dreamcast is not oppening any ports in its private ip, so the port forwarding or de DMZ to my Dreamcast IP will not work.

Have you goy any ideas?

Okey, I was wrong, when my Dreamcast is connecting to the internet, there is a moment that I detect ports opening.

By the way these are the symptoms:

- Worms, when is conected, it is stucked in "Conected to the server!":

-Quake 3, after connect, cant scan games:

-PBA, if I try to register an user or login, it says "Failed to set the game title":

-NBA 2K2 after connected stucked on this message:

Also I have tried to play these games using the dreampi virtual machine of megavolt85, and the same problems like my raspberry dreampi.

Finally was a problem of my isp router, that was setting up the own isp dns in all my devices.

BTW all games now works, excepting worms, I have my DMZ opened but can't start games, any ideas?

Hey Noobaso. Might you be able to explain what you mean by "that was setting up the own isp dns in all my devices"? Is this something you have done in the router setting?

Despite DMZ-ing my DC's IP address, I'm also unable to host or join WWP or Starlancer games, which sounds like a similar problem to you. Everything else works fine for me, including other titles that require DMZ such as Alien Front Online.

My ISP router has an option called "safe DNS" that redirect all DNS to the own ISP's DNS servers, for this reason the games weren't working.

About worms, I have the same problem like you, I can play everything even Alien Front Online without any problems, but can't play Worms, I don't know the reason.
