Doom for genesis, not 32x

Post by gamesreup »

Anyone know if there's ever been a serious attempt at trying to get a version of doom working on the genesis?

Not sure about that, but maybe a Doom mod for the port of Wolfenstein could work? I have one of those portable Genesis clones that has an actual 68000 in it, so not emulation it is using semi-actual hardware. It runs amazing on the system. Such a great port. :D

I've never heard of someone trying that. Unfortunately I think it would need to be hugely scaled down to run on the genesis natively, like a mod on the wolf3d engine, with no floors, ceilings stairs or pits, and limited animation on the monsters a la the snes port. The version coded by Carmack for the 32x, which adds some huge graphical muscle to the genesis, still had to be significantly scaled down compared to the pc version and other ports.
