Alright, this post is a bit of a break from the normal console speculation. I wanted to get some thoughts on Shenmue 3. Has there been any new news or rumors on this? Do you think it will happen? I *ahem* I mean Ryo needs to get his revenge on Lan Di!

Re: Shenmue 3? Will it happen?
That is the $65 million dollar question. Earlier this year, Yu Suzuki hinted that SEGA gave him consent to design Shenmue III, & then later he was promoted to engineer adviser.
I think SEGA is savoring it for thier next console. Otherwise, they would have released another Shenmue a few years ago.

Yes, I did read that article. *Fingers crossed*MrSega wrote:Earlier this year, Yu Suzuki hinted that SEGA gave him consent to design Shenmue III, & then later he was promoted to engineer adviser.
Isn't that what we all want?! Although at this point I think I'd settle for Shenmue III on the Atari 2600!MrSega wrote: I think SEGA is savoring it for thier next console. Otherwise, they would have released another Shenmue a few years ago.

Re: Shenmue 3? Will it happen?
Of course Sega would probably put 2 & 2 together to make 3 ..........
I think Sega missed a trick by not carrying the series over to the Wii. With the hardware being so similar it would have been relatively easy to port 1 & 2 over and start working on 3 using the same game engine and character models etc. Also, as Quantic Dream did with Heavy Rain, Sega could have made good use of the motion sensor - a lot of the gameplay in Shenmue would have worked really well with it.
If Shenmue 3 was started from scratch on next gen hardware it would be a much harder and expensive job. I really don't know if it's gonna happen. Maybe there's more chance of Speilberg buying the rights and making a film out of the series

Shenmue III on Wii? I'm sure SEGA is glad that they weren't foolish enough to make such a awful investment like that. It would have been a dumb business decision to bring Shenmue on Wii, just stupid.Neohound wrote:Of course Sega would probably put 2 & 2 together to make 3 ..........

SEGA tried to please people & Wii owners that
demanded another Nights game, they made Journey into Dreams, SEGA did as much marketing & advertising as needed, and it STILL didn't sell as well as hoped.
Wii is horribly designed, completely outdated & gimmicky. It hardware is a weak ass underpowered piece of garbage. Shenmue on Wii would have looked terrible in 2007/2008 Like an unreleased Xbox game.
Wii's main problem is that its nothing more then a redesigned Gamecube. Its basically Xbox hardware with a different proccessor. Using the same 128-bit processing graphics from the turn of the millenium.
Porting Shenmue would have hurt SEGA. You gotta remember how underrated the series is, it was overlooked on Dreamcast & not many people brought it on Xbox.
I'm glad SEGA said NO to such foolishness. Starting on thier own hardware would be an investment worth it.

Well I guess we can add another console to MrSega's "Weak Ass Underpowered Piece of Garbage TM" list of consoles that he hates.
