I've just gotten a Game Cube, and I really want to put it online. The BroadBand adapter looks really expensive, then I was wondering if I buy the dial-up one if it will work with DreamPi.
Has someone tested it here? Thanks
Is DreamPi compatible with Game Cube?

Re: Is DreamPi compatible with Game Cube?
Any dial up modem should work fine. Dreampi works with the Sega Saturn Netlink, so I'd assume Game Cube dial up should work fine as well

Right, the dial-up portion should work just fine for any dial-up computer or console or modem, but any given GameCube game would need to have some form of fan-based online support (or very long-lived official support). For example, Phantasy Star Online should work with homebrew servers, but I don't know of any others right now. Hopefully someone more informed about this topic can say.

Re: Is DreamPi compatible with Game Cube?
The usefulness of the modem and BBA is reversed for GC: the BBA is desirable, while the modem is not, because most network GC games are LAN only (e.g. Mario Kart and Kirby's Air Ride), and while Homeland has a true online mode, it only supports the BBA. PSO works with both the modem and the BBA, as with the DC version.
If your only desire is to play PSO, then the modem should work fine, but I don't know anything about line voltage simulators and all that stuff when it comes to GC modems, so it might not work with DreamPi out of the box.

Re: Is DreamPi compatible with Game Cube?
It should be the same as the Dreamcast and all others. The telephone equipment including modems in Europe or North America had to all be compatible with the line voltages for their respective territories. The Dreamcast and GameCube use the same amount of voltage, but the amount of volts depends on where the hardware is from. For example, a telephone, a fax machine, and a modem intended for Germany would all use the same electrical voltage from the phone lines.Aleron Ives wrote:I don't know anything about line voltage simulators and all that stuff when it comes to GC modems
tl;dr: A US NTSC GameCube and a US NTSC Dreamcast would both use the same voltage and be compatible with the same LVI or DreamPi.

Re: Is DreamPi compatible with Game Cube?
Thanks a lot for all the messages, I learned a lot with this thread. Like Aleron Ives said, I think it's better to spend some money on the broadband adapter, then I can also play the games in LAN.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Aren't there some DC modem revisions that don't require line voltage at all? If so, how would you tell if a GC modem needs it?Nz17 wrote:A US NTSC GameCube and a US NTSC Dreamcast would both use the same voltage and be compatible with the same LVI or DreamPi.

Re: Is DreamPi compatible with Game Cube?
If you are going to use the dreampi as a solution you have to have a LVI regardless of if the modem on the other end doesnt require voltage. This is due to the USB modem in the dreampi solution needing line voltage. Of course Dreamcastlive.net/shop (PC's site) sales modems with built in LVI'sAleron Ives wrote:Aren't there some DC modem revisions that don't require line voltage at all? Re: Is DreamPi compatible with Game Cube?
The gamecube modem adapter was basically created for PSO and SEGA ^^ They are cheaper and easier to find than BBAs so it could be fun a experience to make it work.
Too bad that the GC exclusive PSO III servers are still buggy.
