Need assistance with VGA cable. No sound. PLEASE help!

Hey everyone. I'm new to the forum, but I've been a Dreamcast fan for years now :D

Anyways, I just plugged in the Dreamcast after not playing it for a while into my HDTV and yes...the picture looks kinda crappy. Tolerable, but not great. So I ordered a VGA cable off of eBay and popped in Virtua Fighter 3.

First thing I noticed was how AMAZING the picture looks. It looks so sharp, I wasn't expecting that much of a jump in quality, but then the disappointing blow...no sound.

It came with a red and white RCA cable so naturally I just assumed that was what I had to do to get sound. But I got nothing. Then I took the cables back to this little input next to where the VGA video cable is. I pushed the red one in and twisted it a little and sound was coming out so I know the sound cables work, but the red sound cable wouldn't stay in so I assume that that's for another kind of cable. I saw these on another post regarding the same subject.

Do I plug this into the small hole next to the VGA input port and then plug the red and white into that to get sound? Again the video looked incredible but lack of sound ruins everything. I got a whole bunch of games too so I guess I gotta use the standard composite to play them for now. Will those things in the picture give me sound?

Does anybody have any suggestions or know what to do? I wanna get this working. Thank you!

Maybe start with showing us which VGA cable it is you bought exactly.

Also tell us what you want to connect it to for sound.

Different setups require different solutions.

Sorry about that. It looks like the attached file.

Either you connect the red and white audio cables directly to an amplifier or monitor boxes, or you connect them to the 3.5mm jack on your computer screen -if it has one- through the cable in the link you provided...

My tv has one. I believe that's what that input was for. I am trying to use it on a television.

Make sure the 3.5mm connection you use on your TV is an audio in, not an audio out.

Also make sure that connection works in combination with the VGA input.

Ok. I'll see what I can get from best buy. I'll show them the VGA I have and the 3.5 I need. I'll return both if they don't work. But like I said when I plugged one of the audio cables in (the red one) sound came through but it wouldn't stay because the jack wouldn't go all the way in. I appreciate all your help!

Yeah, I am unable to use the white and red cables for sound in conjunction with the VGA port on my TV despite having all ports on the TV. The TV menu for my TV simply won't allow for that level of customization (I have to use a stereo cable that looks like a headphone connector, to plug into a small jack next to the VGA port)

Well I went to Radio Shack today to get those female 3.5 mm RCA input jacks. Plugged it into that little slot with the red and white sound cables and viola! Sound came through. I'm one happy camper now. I didn't get to test all my games but the ones I did test look fantastic and the sound is fine as well (Im especially blown away by how awesome Hydro Thunder looks with this thing. Fine line between sharp and smooth) My Dreamcast games have never looked better. These games now look just like they are supposed to. They look complete. VGA IS essential if you're using an HDTV :D
