Hmmmm.
This could be alot of things. But I doubt this is credible.
First of all, I definetly need to check the trademarking department to see if this "Futura" name exist.(If this is real, I doubt this source, then it could be Super System's official codename.)
Second, Knowning SEGA's miltary grade top secret hardware policy, how on earth would Sony get ahold of info like that? The only way they find out is if SEGA told them and the only logical reason for them revealing this to Sony is that SEGASammy is 100% sure that SCEI DOES NOT have the finicial feasiblity and the conditions just aren't favorible to build a "Playstation 4" and instead will INDEED release a PS3 upgrade called PS3.5 that will be more powerful than Wii U.
For now, I doubt this. Since Sony knows nothing about KIDS PAD.

That sounds kinda strange to me. Sony manufactures a lot of different stuff including TVs, laptops, cellphones and cameras. How could they run out of money ? Even poor sales of PS3 at the launch and problems with PSN can't affect the company much.

Please take a closer look at the question:
"Which of the following devices, if any, do you currently own?"
Maybe Sony just wanted to see how many people would click on "SEGA Futura". ^^

Sony is worth $200 billion in net worth, thier game division SCEI is worth $50 billion. They have already be reporting losses in revenue in both thier Electronics, movie and game divisions and last year, it was reported that Sony was in $100 billion in red and will file for bankruptcy if they issue more losses within the next 8 quarters.
SCEI is doing WORSE. The losses on PS3 are substancial. People have to remember, Sony spends only an average budget of $3 billion on R&D for game hardware. That is not the case with PS3. Development of the console goes back to 1999! 7 years, $10 billion dollars and OEM deals with the biggest tech companies and a global brand name were pumped into PS3. Top that into 4 long years of poor worldwide sales of PS3 of an extra $15 billion and an additional $5 billion on Move and price cuts and you get $20 billion in total losses.
Sony knows that it is going to take them years to fully make up for PS3's losses, launching a successor would only deepen the red and drive them out of the hardware business. The PSV is vital to keeping them in the 1st party business, it must succeed if they want to stay, Continuing to invest in PS3 is also vital to SCEI's surivival. This is why Sony has named NGP the Playstation Vita. If Vita preforms poorly, then its curtains for SCEI as they file for Chapter 11.

If "futura" is the codename of a sega product, weather it be a home video game console or Kids Pad, is there any way that sony could know about it?

Business:
You always know what your opponent and possible opponents are doing at all times, and try to either sabotage it, or make something better.
So of course Sony would know, and of course they would know more than all of us too!

MrSega okay I'm just trying to think logically. I'm not really aware of how such business works but also I'd like to point out that PSP has been doing very well (almost 70 million units were sold, including 40,389 for August 8-14 in Japan only) not to mention the games for it.
The sales of PS3 has increased dramatically since those 'dark' times and even the PSN hack didn't do much to it.
What happened to Sony afterall ?

@SegaNews. That's right!
Anyway like I said, I doubt this source for now. But like I said, if this had any possiblity of being true if Super System's codename is indeed "FUTURA" This would be more bad news for SCEI instead of SEGA because not only, would it confirm that there in fact IS NO Playstation 4 and that Sony can't really afford to build one, but it would also mean that Sony is seriously keeping thier fingers crossed that PSV will succeed, even if it does well. There still would be NO PS4, if its a huge hit, then maybe a PS4 will see light of day, but not until 2014 or 2015 at the least.
Say this report WERE true ,that Sony now knows that SEGA has a new platformer in development. Here's my two thoeries on how Sony could just have found out about Super System/FUTURA.
1. Sony may have postponed PS4's
development early this year due to the fact that they couldn't obtain cheap ray tracing techology, that they could have tried to talk to Imagination Tech, but IM told them that they are locked under contract with another game company: SEGA. So it would mean,IM couldn't keep thier mouth shut.
2. Sony probably is begging for more software support for Vita and wants SEGA to support it with more titles, so they may have held a meeting with SEGA recently and confessed to them that they aren't planning a PS4 and are investing in upgrading PS3 to compete against Wii U, feeling confident, no plans for PS4 late in thid gen means that SCEI just doesn't have the finicial fealiblity to build a cutting edge machine and is bearily hanging by the thread in the 1st party market, may have told them that they were planning a new platformer, but didn't tell them any plans or info about it, just that it was codenamed "FUTURA" and that they have access to ray tracing techology through IM.

Since late 2009, PS3 sales in Europe and Japan PS3 sales have gotten adeqaute , but it is not enough to make up for the losses and US sales remain poor. Its going to take years to recover the $10 billion in losses on PS3.
Sony right now is on the edge of a cliff console wise. They can't take anymore reports of annual losses in revenue. Just last year, Sony bearly broke even making only $1.3 billion in operating profit, thier SCEI division did less better making on $435 million in operating profit, in fact last year SEGASammy made more in OP than SCEI earning $850 million in operating profit!
Sony has penned all hopes on PS Vita and investing in trying to reinvent PS3. Henceforth PS3.5 may be the closetest we see to a Playstation 4. If PS Vita has a lackluster start like 3DS, it will be the final nail in the coffin for SCEI and it will lead to Sony exiting the console business reverting back to an OEM.
