Interesting, my experience is quite different. If anything, they look nearly identical, as DCDigital is taking the 240p input in "cable select" mode and scaling it up per your resolution settings. Meanwhile, the VGA patch (I believe) is just line-doubling 240p to 480p, after which DCDigital would scale that up per your resolution settings.

Even if I'm wrong about the line-doubling, it doesn't make much sense that you're seeing such a discrepancy. I'd be curious to hear if anyone else has the same experience as you.
lemme check on my lunch break.

Gave it another go and the same. Im running a dreamcast with DCHDMI at 960 resolution.

When running the VGA patched version it looks a little washed out again. using FORCE VGA
When running the vanilla version with Cable select at 60hz it looks clearer. Cable Select

Strange

Here is test footage of KOF evolution in VGA through the Retrotink 5x: https://youtu.be/q7Oy4bT1WUI I did notice that the game only runs in VGA mode now, I just got a black screen when I tried running the game in non-VGA interlaced mode.

Is there a reason why this version has no bgm?

I could only get it to play audio track #1. I may take another look at it later.

Appreciate you throwing this together! Looks like it's running in the Redream emuiator, I'll take a look at this version and the full audio track (once that's done) on actual hardware when I get home from work.

Thanks!! I had a chance to do some testing with the .CDI BGM version on my Dreamcast (hooked up via VGA on my Panasonic Plasma) and things are working great so far! Will do some more testing past Level 4, but I haven't run into any bugs or issues after 30 min of gameplay.

I'll upload some comparison pics between your patched version (via VGA) and composite later, the game really does look amazing after the patch.
