Sinden Lightgun Review

Howdy folks, somewhat tied into the AmigaCD16 hardware project, I bought a Sinden a while back thinking it could be a super cool base for an amiga zapper.

I have the old wiimote, IR bar, GlovePie deal from forever ago. It's a waste of time tbh.

I have an aimtrak, they're okay.

I do prefer the Sinden so far, it's easiest to set up and feels closest to the real deal but it's still quite, quite shaky, seems a bit slow to me and a bit inaccurate.

By far the best experience I've had on non-CRT displays at home, but could still do with some improving and I think it might be best to just wait and see where it goes.

Also, I'm not near even close to one of the more tech minded dudes here so maybe I am wrong but it does seem rather impossible to play on a dreamcast. It's a super cool idea to, you know, with House, on a giant big display like a projector, but no it doesn't seem possible without something else in the mix. Maybe with an arduino or pi or some such? I dunno, it's beyond me.

I don't regret the buy, but, House is still better on original hardware with old displays and guns.

Update

Okay, so, my biggest issues were settings and hardware.

Jitter - There is an anti-jitter selection. It's just floating around the bottom right of the program needed to run the gun. I missed it until I didn't. It does its job.

Speed - Actually, if you've a fast mouse that is really all you need. I connected my real PC's mouse to my little emu rig and bam, nice speed.

Works well on emus but better on PC native games. I think MAME, ReDream, etc, probably just have bad mouse support. Redream isn't terrible to be honest, it's definitely playable but the Sinden overlay border feature does bug sometimes and you need to pause to bring it back.

On that, the border deal will be a noticeable improvement on a desktop. Once in an emulator it's an absolute necessity. I'd say it's about wiimote good on desktop with no border then becomes pretty excellent with it but in an emu without a border it's totally unplayable with crosshairs just bouncing all over the screen. Which doesn't sound like a huge big deal but sometimes the games will reset the screen in a way that kills the border and you've to go through turning it back on. Can get you killed if you're not paying attention and even when you are it's a break in play anyway.

On PC native I've yet to run into this issue but I'm only testing House of the Dead 2 at the moment.

You tried out Gun4IR ? Seems like the best system from what ive read. Lower latency than sinden, no white borders, can be fitted into any most lightguns. Pre modded ones exist for around 200. Or can diy it. cons-requires sensor bar , but a good one with a decent amount of leds not a crappy wii one
