Okay, so when I try to boot up my save file on PSO v2 it gets to the select a memory card screen but it wont allow me to select the Port. The only thing I can do it press A to reload or B to cancel. Question, my save file is from nearly 6 years ago when I had my BBA. Do characters get periodically purged which would lead to not being able to load this save?

It won't load because the serial number and key stored on the Dreamcast internal memory doesn't match your character. You'll need to wipe the internal memory and re-enter the same serial and key you used when you created the character.
