Re: New Xbox & PlayStation 4: What to Expect -Eurogamer.net
I'm sorry but I'm inclined to say its highly likely that ps4 is in development...one bad console won't kill a company...now a few duds back to back will and that's what happened to sega...at least sony continued and continue to support this console even tho by comparison its a let down after ps2...and that continued support at least kept them close to ms...they def won't take an arrogant overproced road again I can gauruntee that lol

$10-15 billion in losses. 7 long years of R&D, 4 long years of poor demand and dismal worldwide sales. Preforming worse than its more succesful predescessors, The fact that there is no credible realible source pointing to the existance of a Playstation 4 & that unlike its predesscors, there's no PS4 trademark since all Playstation trademarks are usually filed a few years in advance because Sony consoles have NO codenames, and last but not least, Ken Kutaragi's pledge to keep PS3 going until 2016, seeing how Sony's revenue and declining brand name makes it impossible for them to be ableHiryosuke wrote:I'm sorry but I'm inclined to say its highly likely that ps4 is in development...one bad console won't kill a company...now a few duds back to back will and that's what happened to sega...at least sony continued and continue to support this console even tho by comparison its a let down after ps2...and that continued support at least kept them close to ms...they def won't take an arrogant overproced road again I can gauruntee that lol
to juggle 3 high budget game platforms especially since they could still.be taking losses on one, leads me to believe otherwise.

MrSega wrote:@CruSega. Yeah, that would explain alot especially explains why they gave Sonic Generations a 6.5 I remember Next Generation Magazine boy were they Anti SEGA! Called Saturn a mess and declared PSOne to be a techically superior console and claimed Jaguar was a more powerful machine than Saturn. Not only were they wrong and totally false but I remember them launching a nasty, propoganda laced smear campaign against Dreamcast. Always hated NG. However, I think this report is both conflicted(I think the source is reffering to PS3.5) & erroneous. Anything PS4 related has proven to be fanboy wishful thinking so far.
The Saturn WAS a mess, even Yu Suzuki himself said that they should of stuck with 1 CPU, as for the PS1 being more powerful that is a subjective thing, a lot of the games LOOKED better on the PS1, compared to the Saturn versions of the same game, had Sega remedied that sooner it wouldn't have been an issue, but Sega didn't release their better programming libraries and documentation until too late.
As for your claim that Edge/NG claimed that the Jaguar was more powerful than the Saturn, well I bought most of the issues of Edge between 1993 - 2003 and I never read that in the UK edition, so I'm kinda skeptical of that part being true.

I agree but MrSega is going to claim that rumors of there being a next gen Playstation are false right up to the day it is released, I've had that discussion with MrSega about that subject on numerous occasions, it tends to be like shouting at a brick wall unfortunately.

Well u r also possibly overlooking software and digital revenue...most sony first party titles have sold quite well not to mention psn has been profitable for a while now...also keep in mind that sony makes money off movies amd blu ray sales so they prob have the bank to keep ps3 goin that long...I mean the system was pretty well future proofed and the next xbox might not be a whole hell of a lot better...the ps3 has still not been tapped out and they can continue to milk alongside the new xbox console at a lower pricepoint with a blu ray player (assuming the new xbox foregoes blu ray) a price drop on ps3 after said xbox console laumches alongside a mew console launch would give them a big boost in ps3 sales while ppl transition to the newer hardware assuming they don't botch the pricing...

Next Generation magazine contributed to Sega's demise. When I was working at EB games in Xmas of 1995, many gamers made the decision to go with PSOne instead of Saturn because of all the Sega-bashing by NG. Keep in mind, the magazine debuted in America a few months before each system's Japan launch, a critical time for the dawn of true 32 bit gaming, unlike the pretenders: Jaguar, 3DO, etc. One issue opened up the Saturn to "explain" what a mess it was inside. Meanwhile, PS1 could do no wrong in their jaded eyes.MrSega wrote:@CruSega. And they never brought up PS2 issues such as the lack of anti-aliasing on early and even 2nd or 3rd generation titles even though PS2 games suffered from jaggies everywhere.

BluRay hasn't been the cash-cow that Sony/Matsushita hoped it would. Streaming is just around the corner, though not likely from NetFlix after their recent blunders.Hiryosuke wrote:Well u r also possibly overlooking software and digital revenue...most sony first party titles have sold quite well not to mention psn has been profitable for a while now...also keep in mind that sony makes money off movies amd blu ray sales so they prob have the bank to keep ps3 goin that long...I mean the system was pretty well future proofed and the next xbox might not be a whole hell of a lot better...the ps3 has still not been tapped out and they can continue to milk alongside the new xbox console at a lower pricepoint with a blu ray player (assuming the new xbox foregoes blu ray) a price drop on ps3 after said xbox console laumches alongside a mew console launch would give them a big boost in ps3 sales while ppl transition to the newer hardware assuming they don't botch the pricing...
Sony as a corporation has really been struggling in the LCD/PC market as well where they just can't compete with cheaper brands Vizio or Lenovo. Sony (SNE on Nasdaq) stock price reflects this too.
In fact, Sony could have easily dominated the gaming market for a 3rd generation had they not included BluRay playback and kept the PS3 launch price competitive. Still got to give them credit for not pulling out during the dark years of the PS3 unlike Sega though. But with continued low US hardware sales, it may be very hard for them to recover the lead here even with the PS4.

True but like all major gamin sites say the best games don't show up until the end of a console's life...what was the example they gave?...I think they used ff12 which was good...I left ff after 8 tryin each one with less and less interest but that one I liked...passed on 13 waiting for versus 13 def skippin 13-2 lol

And what I was gettin at with that is that they still have time to come out with a real system seller like ms with halo...imo drake's uncharted is good but it jus doesn't come off as a console seller...neither is gow twosted metal killzone or the resistance franchise...sony has a nu,ber of great titles but no real identifying title...ya know? Ps2 was god of war/final fantasy...ps1 had crash... Ps3...it only does everything...but doesn't have that killer app/identifier...

Since last generation, Sony has tried to market KillZone as the Halo-killer. Sony has also failed to generate Halo-success with the Resistance series. It remains to be seen if Sony can create an FPS that is on par with Halo/Call of Duty/Battlefield. While I'm not optimistic, anything is possible. Drake and InFamous are good titles, but 3rd person action doesn't seem as appealing to the US gamer this generation. On the 360, I do love Gears of War though.
Re: New Xbox & PlayStation 4: What to Expect -Eurogamer.net
@CruSega. NG/Edge is/was a very elitist propogandist magazine. Its funny because the PSOne has not aged well at all. Many of its 3D titles look horribly dated, grainy and blurry. Thats what you get with only 398,000 polygons. Saturn on the hand has aged fantastically well, its later titles looked more refined, cleaner and sharper.
PS2 has overstayed its welcome. Many of its library now is considered nothing more than shovelware now just above Wii. Dreamcast is now more popluar, has stronger base and appeal because of its short lifespan. And it isn't the lack of anti aliasing thats caused time to be so unkind to PS2.
SEGA did get the last laugh after all.
