And that is exactly was i was refering to. This link http://playstationlifestyle.net/2010/12 ... processor/ which is the same article i was reading when i made my first post, and thats the same link i was talking about what i replied to stu (which he included with his post) that i omitted from the quote. was you replying to him because what i quoted or to me.MrSega wrote:I wasn't talking about the old 2005 patent, I was talking about the recent December 2010 one.madmax2069 wrote:stu wrote: I think MrSega is referring to an old Sony patent that described adding additional Cell processors to the PS3
Yeah i knew what he was talking about. Thats also the same link i was reading when i was looking up info.

Re: New Xbox & PlayStation 4: What to Expect -Eurogamer.net
The only time i would buy a 3DS is if it came with a lifetime subscription of migraine meds. I have tried numerous times to play the 3DS with the 3D setting on but every time it gives me one hell of a migraine. I wish that it didn't because it is a pretty awesome effect. Star fox in 3D just makes my mouth water just to say the least.MikeStutzzzz wrote:ROFLMFAO yup thats why the only nextgen console i bought was a 3ds.mazonemayu wrote:what to expect (in a nutshell):

Re: New Xbox & PlayStation 4: What to Expect -Eurogamer.net
Looks like some credible rumors are coming out regarding the codename for the next Xbox, according to TeamXbox, quoting a story in XbitLabs, it would seem that it is going by the codename of Xbox 'Loop'.
Quote: "Tech blog X-bit is reporting a selection of rumors said to be sourced from an unofficial Microsoft product roadmap, which places the successor to the Xbox 360 on track for a late 2013 release, with the name (or codename) "Loop" attached to it.
We can't imagine the "Loop" name being the final branding for the machine -- after all, its release is still around two years out, and these things take time to finalize. Remember that before its launch, the Xbox 360 went by the equally quirky name of 'Xenon'. "
Here's a couple of links:

All in in pretty interesting, so much for 'Xbox Bulldozer"

More rumors on Xbox 'Loop'. This time from X-bit Labs.

Quote: "The Xbox Next is projected to feature an ARM-based heterogeneous system-on-chip (SoC) with multiple dedicated assistive cores for graphics, AI, physics, sound, networking, encryption and sensors, according to MS Nerd blog. The SoC will be designed by Microsoft and two yet-to-be-named partners. The new console is projected to feature operating system that will be based on Windows 9 core. The whole gaming machine is expected to be smaller and less expensive to manufacturer than its predecessor.
Such high amount of integration of the SoC will let Microsoft to greatly reduce internal design complexity of the initial console. The first and second generations of the Xbox 360 sported a number of key chips inside, which did not allow Microsoft to quickly reduce the manufacturing costs and pricing even as semiconductor manufacturing processes became thinner and allowed such a possibility in theory."
On the subject of backwards compatibility with Xbox360 games, the author reported this:
Quote:
"In case Microsoft decides to sustain backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 without substantial IP development licensing, then the company can hire AMD (its ATI graphics division) to create a new custom Radeon graphics core for the Xbox Next and then integrate it into the "Loop" silicon. Should Microsoft drop compatibility, it will have a chance to use ARM-, PowerVR- or Nvidia-developed cores."
Hmmm interesting, maybe it will be Microsoft who will be using Nvidia's Denver SoC!
Edit: Looks like there is different codename for the next Xbox doing the rounds --- Project Ten!

What We Heard: Around the 88-minute mark of the show, Laporte prompts Thurrott to talk about the new Xbox, which he calls "Project Ten." Thurrott then explains that he's been hearing the console is planned for release during the 2012 holiday season, "meaning that they would almost have to announce this at [Consumer Electronics Show], wouldn't they?"
So whats it to be -- Loop or Project Ten?

Re: New Xbox & PlayStation 4: What to Expect -Eurogamer.net
@stu. Most of these rumors are inconsisant. First of all, Nvidia Denver is ISA based not Soc based. ISA stands for Instructional Set Archtecture which is basically 8 seperate ARM 64-bit CPUs running pararell in combined 512 MBs. Denver is more like Hitachi RISC based Super H processors & sounds more like its right up SEGA's ally.
Soc "System on Chip" is single core based and has processors combined not seperate.
Not only that most developers and industry insiders have said that Mircosoft had ALREADY chose the console's processor last year & its an AMD SoC not ARM.
Its not the Denver. Denver is ISA based. If you would tie Nvidia as a partner to Mircosoft then you would be likely referring to the Tegra series which is ARM Cortex SoC based. Both Denver and Tegra 4 codenamed "Wayne" are simular in power but different in design, Tegra is definelty SoC based while Denver is ISA based. So Xbox "Loop" would have Nvidia Wayne while SEGA RINGWAVE/Futura will use Hitachi Renasas "Stealth" (NVIDIA Denver based) so SEGA & Mircosoft both have competing ARM processors!
Oh and the next Xbox will be annouced at E3 not CES. In fact, development kits will be sent out next quarter.

This first bit is actually incorrect, an ISA Instruction Set Architecture, is just the part of the processor related to programming it, the basic instructions for programming the chip, in this case the ARM is the ISA.
Other examples of ISAs are Intel's x86 ISA and IBM's POWER ISA. Denver is actually going to be a System on Chip or SoC, SoC's are microchips that contain all the elements of a computer on a single chip, SoC's can be multicore systems, in this case they are normally referred to as MPSoC's or Multi Processor System on Chips.
As for the rumors themselves I am simply posting what I am seeing in the mainstream gaming/tech websites. I'm not saying they are true and I am not making bold/wild predictions and claims regarding the next Xbox. However I am willing accept these rumors more, since they are being reported in credible sites like GameSpot and Computer & Video Games.
Re: New Xbox & PlayStation 4: What to Expect -Eurogamer.net
(Does a more research.) I've done some investigating & have studied both Nvidia Denver and Wayne. The more I read about the xbit report & conclude it being very likely accurate the more I'm convinced they're talking about the Wayne/Tegra 4 & aren't referring to Denver. Wayne is ready OEM rollout & will be released in early 2012.
Don't underestimate Wayne, its pretty damn powerful and high end. Just that its more basic than Denver.
So Xbox "Loop" will likely be powered by "Bruce Wayne", The Dark Knight.
