Re: SEGADRIVE, is SEGA planning NEW console with it?
Yup. Because May is usaully the month SEGA annouces something new, if they didn't in March, also May is known as "Gamer's Day" when SEGA holds a press conference whenever they have new game hardware. They annouced "Sega Saturn" publicly in May of 1994 and "Dreamcast" in May of 1998.MistaBuck wrote:MrSega wrote:I seriously doubt it. probably
Pico had edutainment games, and had a plug in TV feature along with the fact that it looked like a toy laptop. None of these descriptions are listed in the trademark description. Plus it says electronic games and liquid crystal screen display. Which means it has its own screen, Pico did not have a screen.

May couldn't come soon enough, by then we'll have anwsers.
here's the thing
1. it's called the Kids Pad
2. Sega Toys IS a Subsidiary of Sega Sammy, but, if I'm correct, they are two different companies
3. Like I said Earlier, They probably Made the patent sound more "technical" than it really is
4. Sega Toys Makes, well, Toys, Not game machines (that's regular Sega)
I DO believe you in some extents... This is not one of them
PS: Why did you say "May couldn't come any sooner"?
Something about a reveal or some shit
So in May 2011, we'll get a straight anwser from SEGA on what the KIDSPAD really is. We shall also find out what the hell is going on with the Sonic 20th anniversary title.

Re: SEGADRIVE, is SEGA planning NEW console with it?
Yes, but... if I had a trillion dollar business but only had a billion dollars of disposable cash, my outlooks for developing a console still don't look good.MistaBuck wrote:Ok, Here's the Dilly-o (Part Deux)
Although I'm not 100% sure monetary-wise anymore, I still think that There is a possibility for some kind of console:
Correct me if I'm wrong with this (seriously please do so), but doesn't Sega+Sega Sammy have more money now than Sega alone during the Dreamcast Era?
Debunked this pretty well earlier on. They really don't have the resources. I forgot to mention that they've only got about $40,000,000 invested into R&D. That sort of really takes care of the "they're developing a console!" rumors. I'm surprised $40 million even covers their game developments.I might Just be Fantarding (in fact I'm positive), but If Sega could (barely) support a console then, can't they do it even better now?
and yes, I'm now talking about all the odds and ends. as in R&D, Taxes, and such...
Once again, PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong.
They've got a bigger business now, but they still don't have the cash to compete against the $500 million that Microsoft was able to put into Kinect, and I'm sure that Sony and Nintendo are hitting that ball park. They'd have to take on massive debt to do this, and I don't think they have enough assets to where a bank would consider giving them a loan.
Those would certainly be the things to shoot for, they'd just need the cash.I'm fairly positive that Sega CAN Make a Console, and make if successful, Possibly even more successful than any other Sega system before it.
They just have to
Release it at the right time
Make sure it appeals to ALL regions
AND
Make sure the right Marketing is in place
And hopefully
If the do release a console
It'll have good games~
Also, I don't think haneda claiming to be a member of one of the competing skunkworks teams proves anything. The Blackbelt and Katana teams were basically known about before the Dreamcast even launched due to the 3DFX lawsuit.
Besides that, that would mean he's an engineer. If I made the piles of cash I would being an engineer, I'd buy a Ferrari and hit the club

....but then I'd be an engineer so I'd be really awkward. I'd probably purchase a Ford Focus and spend my extra time playing Risk with friends.

Thanks for the insight~
however, can I ask you one thing...
What does This patent mean?
I mean
If Sega doesn't have enough funds to support such a system, what IS this?

Re: SEGADRIVE, is SEGA planning NEW console with it?
From what I've seen it looks like a network where arcades can play online with each other. The dreamcast image doesn't mean anything, b/c in the description of all the things in the picture it just calls it "game machine". So its just a generic console. But it does look like sega is trying to make arcades bigger and expand the range. I dont think will ever reach the us arcades since they are basically dead. But adding motion control could attract people to the arcades to play, mostly just little kids. But the other question is, why would americans drive to the nearest arcade when they could do motion control on the wii at their home? Who knows what this is? We have to wait to the middle of this year to see if anything happens with this hardware and the kids pad and the "segadrive"..

Nothing. Check out the foreign filing date. It's from May 9th, 2001. They previously tried to file it in the US on May 31, 2004. I'd guess it was intended for Outtrigger, since that game had networked arcade play (IIRC). They were probably trying to get it to play against the Dreamcast as well, but never implemented it. They haven't updated the patent application at all, either. The most recent storage medium it mentions is DVD.MistaBuck wrote:@comradesnarky

Sega seems to be something of a patent troll, honestly. They sued whoever developed that Simpsons game that was Crazy Taxi style because they used the arrow system and they won.
