Btw has anyone figured out how (or even if) this game saves?

Well, after managing to complete the first world in only a few (75) minutes, I can confirm that the game does save (or it saved after the first world anyway). When starting the game again, it starts in world 1 again, but you can go to the next world in the 'World select' menu.

Yup, it only saves after every level. AND, it punishes you for starting from the world that you saved at.

In other words, it wants you to start from the beginning again.

Have no doubt, this game is difficult. Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.

ok, I can live with that, I thought there was NO save, like in Gunlord or so. I made it to the first boss so far (haven't had much time to play, cos I've been working all weekend), so I guess I'll be saving the game soon :p

I have made an SD ISO image for it as well. Not sure if there is any incompatibility issues though I don't think there should be. The image has been given to Impulse so it should be available soon.
