You're welcome! And yes, haha, I absolutely HAD TO add this new cheat function. I wanted people to experience the entire story, and I knew very few would without the credits and countdown clock cheats.

Sorry if this has been answered already but, playing on real hardware, can I use a US light gun for this or do I need a Japanese model

According to that chart my US Dreamcast (GDEMU) + JP light gun + s-video output to CRT should work but it's exhibiting the same issue I saw in another thread here: viewtopic.php?t=15894

It works perfectly in the calibration section but seems to not work at all in any of the actual gameplay, at least for aiming, I can still progress the dialogues and stuff. I tested my light gun on the region-patched versions of Virtua Cop 2, Confidential Mission, and Death Crimson OX, all of which worked as expected (didn't test House Of The Dead). Is it a bad dump triggering some kinda' anti-piracy lock from the game? Any help would be appreciated, hopefully this is the right place to ask this. Tried looking before asking and so forth and it landed me here.

There is no light gun patch for "Virtua Cop 2", the only three NTSC-U games that require patching are "Confidential Mission", "Death Crimson OX", and "House of the Dead 2" (see here).

That being said, it's very strange that this console/gun/video cable combination you're using is exhibiting those issues. This is not a "bad dump" problem with some sort of anti-piracy kicking in. This is exhibited in any and all rips of the game (old scene CDIs, TOSEC GDI, and Redump CUE/Multi-BIN). It's annoying, and it's puzzling. It very well could be attributed to some bad video code.

I'm sorry you're unable to use the light gun for this game. With the use of the cheat mode I added, you can still use a standard controller if you'd at least like to experience the story. Cheating will at least make the game beatable with standard controller (otherwise it's very, very challenging).
