Anyway i like to see many updates this time. Thank you Reticon team. Keep up good work.Furthermore, on our long 'laundry list' of items to fill for this project, we are preparing a 'Kickstarter' package for this project in order to receive the funding necessary to complete this game in the vision that it was intended to have. With the proper funding, this game can be even better, and those who have worked tireless hours would be able to be compensated for their work until the full release of TAHI.

Re: Tahi - The Arocean War (9-9-09)
nice thanks for the link, I like what they are doing so far, looks like things are doing well though I'm still rather in the dark on the whole concept of the gameplay, they mention there are no levels as such, what does this mean? I thought it was a free roaming game so obviously there must be environments they have to design right? or are they referring to levelling up levels?
anyway all very interesting, I look forward to seeing more

Re: Tahi - The Arocean War (9-9-09)
I am excited for the console idea and I would buy one, but I think it is going to be exceedingly tough to make it a success without a strategic partnership. Getting a worthwhile and dependable Chinese supply chain together seems to be the ruin of many a project like this. You would also need some serious money upfront for the manufacturing, to say nothing about marketing and trying to get some compelling high quality games that would draw in a user base.
At the same time, Ooya has captured the public eye in terms of "indie consoles" and kickstarter funded consoles. The Reticon console idea may be seen by others as a reduced performance Ooya copycat, and it may not be as succesfull as hoped if put on kickstarter. If Ooya fails (either due to manufacturing or other issues) as some tech journalists predict, that would also likely make the public exceedingly skeptical of the Reticon console.
That said, I'd love to see what happens with the console idea. I would welcome a new console similar in design to the dreamcast. I think Tahi should be finished and sold first though so Reticon can leverage off any potential profits.

Re: Tahi - The Arocean War (9-9-09)
I have to disagree with the notion that TAHI should be finished first before moving on. I think a big reason developers are excited about Ooya is because of how easy it will be to develop not for but rather around. Currently the average smartphone has the power of a Dreamcast if not a bit more and the real appeal would be to use an open source engine like Unity to make a game for Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, and this new console. If porting was easy and sensible then the system could be a huge hit but time is of the essence. If you miss the window of compatibility between other mediums (I'd say it has to come out within a year if not sooner) then I can't imagine the console getting off the ground.
I do think the next generation of consoles will fail. Think about Nintendo, they sell far more consoles than software (at least in comparison to other systems) because they market their products to parents rather than the kids of those parents. The Wii is absolute dogshit IMO and the technology used in the Wii-mote functions worse than the old NES Zapper but parents say "hey! that's cool, I'd like it so I'm sure my child would" without understanding how nerfed it is compared to modern consoles and what that means for third party ports. Now this isn't a gimmicky product and that's not what I'm implying but I think at a $45 price point parents would be getting these for their kids left and right as opposed to an xbox 72013214 or PS4, especially given the stigma that still surrounds letting younger children on the internet (they will require always active internet and not have disc drives). The older generation of gamers will relate to the console because it will bring back fond memories of when gaming kicked complete ass. I think given the large probability of failure for next gen consoles the main competition will become Ooya (it obviously is shooting for a similar market share regardless of whether PS4 and whatnot succeed or fail).
What it comes down to is this; it either needs to come out soon or if that is impossible it must scale its technology to the newest smartphone/tablet technology. Or if you want to do something even crazier, have it literally be mod-able, let people put new graphics cards in, hell license them and sell them! Let them add RAM, make it more of a standardized computer and it could theoretically last forever when considering how fast other mediums are growing (even PC since things have gone all laptop and the market is still rapidly catching up to the Desktops of years before).

I'd like to see this phone; "average" means 1 out of 2, iphones don't count as they are in fact portable computersBrianC wrote:Currently the average smartphone has the power of a Dreamcast if not a bit more

You don't think Android phones released within the last year are up to par if not ahead of the Dreamcast? The worst mobile gpu still in use (to my knowledge) is the Adreno 205 and its certainly comparable.
