Probably just a friendly gesture and community interest from SEGA, and/or hidden agenda for potential release on one of the mayor digital platforms. But no way the Dreamcast release is going to get licensed by SEGA (America), Japan will never allow that.

I feel like it would be great for SEGA's image if they were to get involved in the project. I know chances are slim but the posts made here were pretty cryptic and even secretive at times making me think somethings actually going on.

Probably... the only thing they are doing are "hd remakes" of the dreamcast releases.

Jet set radio is coming soon, sonic adventure 2 is due in october.
And they have the shenmues ready when they see fit to release them.

No new games though... they wouldn't be dc games...

Here is another update from Reticon Entertainment:

Hello DC-Talk,

I apologize greatly for the long leave of absence during our production. There was a lot that needed to be taken care of. There was a death in the family, I had to move to a new location in California (200 miles away to a new home for myself) as well as a new job. There was a lot of 'life' that I had to take care of, so Tahi was put on a small, temporary hiatus until I got everything back in line and back together again. We had our first meeting in over a month, all is well and we are planning on doing catch up to help resolve this tiny hiatus that was taken and the hiatus has been lifted. I thank you all for your patience in regards to this but during our meeting and our conversation, as always, we will have great things to show!

Onto your questions that you have provided.
We had a recent discussion (with Bob Dobbs), so I will touch on the points that we did not discuss about. If you have any questions (Dobbs), let me know! I'll be glad to touch on it some more.

QUESTIONS:

1. Will their be a manual, if so, will it be a full featured colour manual?
A: Yes, there will be a manual for the release of this game. We are planning for a full colored manual. We want to keep it as true to the original Dreamcast CD production as possible. It will be thorough but not too much. We would prefer the game to be played and learned as you go instead of just slapped into a manual.

2. Will it come in a CD or a DVD case?
A: Again, we would like to keep it as close to the original production of a Dreamcast game as possible, so it will be in a jewel (CD) case. We would like for the gamers to be able to slip this game into the rest of the games they own for their Dreamcast collection without being obstructing.

3. Will there be a limited edition and if so, will they be numbered?
A: There will be a limited edition, but presented differently. We have plans on releasing signed copies of our game, as well as signed consoles. As for the contents of the 'Limited Edition' that is still to be determined. Yes, the games should be numbered.

4. Will you be able to play multiplayer with the Vs. Link Cable?
A: The game is heavily based on story, there will be no multiplayer involved. The game is much like The Elder Scrolls Series. Where you, and only you, take helm of the story, play it and shape it along the way. When games become multiplayer, the story begins to take 'back seat' because it becomes hard to manage multiple players.

5. After Tahi do you have any plans to continue developing for the Dreamcast?
A: Yes we do. We will continue developing on the Dreamcast for as long as we can. Now that the Ionicon Engine is our main source of content creation for the Dreamcast, we will continue the Tahi series as well as new games that we have actually already planned.

6. Will you be releasing it at any retail stores, like retro gaming stores?
A: Oh by all means, yes! We will be looking into that avenue shortly, as well as online sales. We would like to make it as easy as possible for people to purchase our game!

7. Will there be any promotional items?
A: We were thinking this, yes. In our original plans from a few years back, we wanted to sale replica 3D figurines of the heroes and villains of the Tahi world, as well as some fine T-shirts, but that's still not our main concern. Our concern is the game itself, and crafting it as finely as possible.

8. What was the new advancement by the team that streamlined Dreamcast development?
A: I don't want to say too much regarding our streamlined process yet. It involves the use of just one computer now. We have our entire development platform on one machine. You may now code, compile and test with ease. Before you had to code, then compile, you wouldn't know if you had any runtime errors (or compile time in some cases) then you had to make sure everything was linked correctly to its libraries necessary to run and THEN convert it to some format usable, and then test it on a lousy emulator, 50% accurate emulator. We've taken that all out of the equation, so that now you can write, compile and test with many fewer steps. Especially now that the Ionicon engine is in place, the platform is easier to understand and use.

9. What kind of setup is Reticon using to test/debug the game and send data to a Dreamcast?
A: Broadband adapter, serial cable connection, LAN adapter, Dreamcast emulator, all of these? something else?...We use all of these options. We also have a Dreamcast attached to a PC via serial to a local network hub in which our programmers can send data to the Dreamcast (with a lock of course, once connection is established) to test their code on one a time. It's sort of an easier, communal way to work using an actual Dreamcast platform in a central setting. So far it has been proven to be rather successful.

10. Does Reticon anticipate that future sales of the game will be able to compensate employees for the great lengths of time spent working on it? Or, if angels, FF&Fs, or PE is involved - does Reticon anticipate that future sales of the game will be able to compensate outside investors for the financing of Reticon's operations?
A: Yes, we intend that our sales will be good. You should soon see some major changes soon as to how we are presenting this game in the online scene. We are just gathering our assets together to make sure we have enough content to share to the public without giving away too much of course. We are also expanding our releases not only to the Dreamcast itself, but Android and iOS platforms for mobile gaming capability. We've noticed that there really is not a major game yet released for Android and iOS in such a scope as Tahi, so we will venture these avenues as well, but of course, always keep the Dreamcast as our main-stay. We also have future plans on releasing a VERY AFFORDABLE console that mirrors the capability of the Dreamcast. We've been working with engineers to create such a device. Not much can be said at this moment in time however.

Again, I do apologize for the absence, life hit us all hard for a while. Now that it is all cleared up and everything is now taken care of, we are continuing production as it was. The meeting was fantastic. We discussed an even more concise time table of asset production, as well as a solidified studio location and funds! Everything is absolutely fantastic. We will also be acquiring an additional programmer and artist to help production.

Thank you all for your patience as soon as we gather enough to show, we will have many more updates in store.

Thank you,
Reticon Entertainment

Thanks for all the responses to the questions. I know some of my questions were pretty direct, so thanks for not dodging them, it certainly increases my confidence in the project. I wish the entire Tahi team the best in realizing the game, and thanks for keeping in touch with the community. Looking forward to the next update.

What would be the benefit of creating a console similar to the Dreamcast as far as specs go as opposed to simply developing on the Dreamcast?

Also, allow me to be the first to beg for Xperia Play optimization :D

It would be awesome if SEGA would somehow get involved in this. If they actually licensed the release of this game it would be so badass. Sadly though, that's probably not very likely to happen.

To clarify some questions, I can add the following:

1. No SD-Card support.

2. We will not get any further information regarding Sega's interest/position at this time. We will have to wait until the timing of the game release is at hand.

3. If there are any other questions than the items above, please feel free to submit them. Reticon will respond to them at the end of July.

as Brian C says, whats the point of developing a console similar to DC when they could just develop for DC? No one will likely buy it in this market and those that have the DC already won't need one, though I guess it depends on the system. I just find it a bit of an odd idea like Brian
