ian, this app from 2007 looked promising. LAME v3.97 is from 2006 my search showed. I tried it, but just get a black screen (no video, no audio). In a dump of the CDI, "XING" text is next to LAME. Search of "LAME" is there, but no version number. MEncoder is the AVI writer. Maybe you can code to the output of this app?

UPDATE: ALLTOAVI: I can get video to play if I remove the audio first! So, we're back to the MP3 issue.

Yeah only xilisoft mp3 encoder works lol

Here is simpsons encoded from yours qualty is the same as gypsy play .. If i started with better quality video it be as good as the sample I did show and much better then what gypsy play can do ..

Mpeg1 is very low spec

Xvid is much better closer to mpeg2

Hitting 24 fps on demul gypsy play only hits 22fps

Here you go alpha 2 debug turned off

xvid.png
Not to be funny but if you want it to work use xilisoft I have never found any other encoder that works i wish you luck but it pissed me off all these open src bullshit just dont work..

Download simpsons movie xvid alpha 2

Alpha 2 has debug turned off might be too fast sync wize burned it and played it on real hardware worked fine

Right, it should not be an issue in the first place! Is the source code available for the KOS MP3 library? The only problem with the Xilisoft app is the $42 price tag. :o

I enjoy using free and libre software just as much as the next nerd but sometimes those commercial products are worth it. You are paying for a legit mp3 codec here, it is what it is... Don't forget about the pirates bay..

Does the mp3 need to be in mono format to work in your player?

No stereo works.. but since most retail games used mono for video i was just doing that to match.. It might put more work on the cpu doing that with this just have to test more same with down sample like 32 and not 44 as direct is 44khz
got way all that up ..

Wince mpeg for retail was to slow to use stereo

4x4 evo for example intro video is mono

Just like sega i never intended it to be used for movies but for scenes for my homebrew
Proper dvd qualty is 4xm for dreamcast 640x480 hardware fullspeed perfect sound and sync
But not to legal to release i compiled and built the 4xm c++ bin and show it's grace..
