Thanks you two, you've both done your bit, in words and pictures, to show some concern for my situation. And a good laugh always proves to be a great tonic
Getting back to the game, I met this guy today who claimed to be the British under 15's Arcade game Champion in the late 1990's

The games he played to win this particular championship ? Manx TT............and Sega Rally !! How coincidental is that ?
He's obviously quite a bit older now, but he still walked with me for a while discussing his love of gaming and all things Sega including, you guessed it, the Dreamcast.

Cool! You should have told him to enter this competition. See if he's still got it!

Of course I should have ! Stupid me, I wasn't thinking !
*bashes hand against head*
Tbh, I was a bit sceptical about his story until he popped into his house and returned with an armful of trophies and newspaper clippings from his big day ! lol
He did say his gaming days were on hold atm, and that he was in the process of selling his collections on Ebay
Oh well, next time I see him I'll try and convince him that the Dreamcast is where it's at nowadays and that he should put on his racing boots and head over to DC-Talk. You never know

OK I've decided to give it a try....
Although I played the game in VGA, I had to fix the framerate to 30FPS. It becomes off-putting otherwise.
The world record times are around 1'42-1'41. Neohound, I see you have the Japanese version so I may be able to give you some of their replays (if you're interested). They don't run on the PAL/US versions so I've never seen them!

rjay! I was wondering where you were. This competition is right up your alley!

That's a very nice time you got there! Looks like you're gonna give Alec a run for his money! I've pretty much thrown in the towel on this one. I can't even match my best time let alone beat his or now even yours!

That 1' 41" must be with a different car or something. Regardless that's darn impressive!

Oh, what the fuck! I thought I had this comp in the bag... Are you sure you're using standard settings? Well I'm not going down without a fight, you can count on that. I've got the whole weekend ahead of me. I was planning on playing some Resident Evil and Sword of the Berserk, but that just went out the window.

Done.
If we keep this up, we might end up busting the world record!
I also saved and recorded my replay of this run. I'll upload it when I'm able.
