Once again, you are wrong. FF XI was not the only gane that made use of the HDD!Not until 2004. Plus it was only used for FF XI. The only PS2 game that made use of an HDD.

Re: The unreleased SEGA 'Saturn 2' and The Dreamcast Story
Wrong. RAM has nothing to do with saving. RAM is data that is stored onto RAM chips because it needs to be accessed quickly. There's no such thing as a software ROM. They don't use more game memory. Let's say a system has 64mb of RAM. That's how much RAM it has. Period. That's it. That's all. Games have to use that 64mb of RAM and make it work. If one level takes up 64mb of RAM and it can't fit the music into RAM, then it'll play the music from a disc. Then it clears out the RAM for the next level.MrSega wrote:Yeah, but look at it this way. 6th Gen consoles Mircoproccessors could process more RAM and produce more data on their own. In the 5th, the software ROMs had to do all the dirty work & thus used more game memory.Comrade Snarky wrote:It is, but facepalm at Sega and their 128kb memory cards.CD AGES wrote:I just find it silly that he compares a DC add-on to a simple memory card.
Except Sega Saturn & Nintendo 64 had backup, Playstation did not.
The only thing that goes onto the VMU is a tiny file that says "the player is on this level and they have this many lives."
Also, you're wrong on the Nintendo 64 having "backup." Nothing saved to the console. Cartridges had extra chips in them to save. It cost money though, that's why some companies skipped this and used memory card saving.

Jeez, how does this guy not know this shit!? Comrade put it down here in its truest form of these things actually work. I'm no tech wiz or "expert", but even I know this.Wrong. Back off fellas. Let's leave it to the expert.
Re: The unreleased SEGA 'Saturn 2' and The Dreamcast Story
@CD AGES. Name me several USNSTC & PAL PS2 games that used the HDD because I sure as hell don't remember many PS2 owners even owning or using one. You claim I'm wrong but you don't even name any titles beside FF XI that make use of it.
@Snarky. I'm talking about DATA & ROM memory not RAM. N64 carts were limited in capacity and Data storage. Why do you think N64 was so difficult to program & code? The Expansion Pac was designed as "Backup Data". Some N64 carts WILL NOT work at all without an EX Pac.

It doesn't matter what you were talking about because you don't know what you're talking about.
The expansion pack wasn't designed as backup data. It added more RAM to the system because it was limited.

North American releases with HDD support
ESPN NFL 2K5, NBA 2K5, ESPN College Hoops 2K5, ESPN MLB 2K5, and
ESPN NHL 2K5
use the HDD to improve replays. (If the HDD is not installed, static screenshots are shown as replays. With the HDD, full cutscene-like replays can be displayed). ESPN NHL 2K5 has the ability to save files directly to the hard drive
Final Fantasy XI is the only North American game truly dependent on the HDD as it requires various patches and upgrades from Square Enix.
Metal Saga installs 1.7 GB to the HDD to decrease load time and uses the HDD to save/load game instead of Memory Card
MLB 2K6, 2K7, 2K8, 2K9, 2K10, 2K11 and 2K12 support saving to the HDD as well as the automatic installation of data for faster loading.†
NBA 2K6, 2K7, 2K8, 2K9, 2K10, 2K11 and 2K12 support saving to the HDD as well as the automatic installation of data for faster loading.†
NHL 2K6, 2K7, 2K8, 2K9 and 2K10 support saving to the HDD.†
RPG Maker 3 installs 3 GB to the HDD to decrease load times.
Resident Evil Outbreak (Both File #1 and File #2) installs 1 GB to the HDD for reduced loading times.
SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALs supports additional maps, downloadable via the in game "Socom Store".
SOCOM II: U.S. Navy SEALs supports additional maps, however the files must be copied from a magazine demo disc to the hard drive and cannot be downloaded.
SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Combined Assault supports additional maps.
Street Fighter Alpha Anthology, like its Japanese counterpart, can install 2 GB to the HDD to reduce loading time.
The Urbz: Sims in the City recognizes when the HDD is installed and allows data to be saved directly to it. Also creates a 512 MB "_tmp" Partition to cache Game Files to speed up load times.
The Sims 2 recognizes when the HDD is installed and allows data to be saved directly to it. Also creates a 512 MB "_tmp" Partition to cache Game Files to speed up load times.
Thats just the US list. The Japanese release is a LOT longer.

Oh BTW MrSega, you're wrong... again.

Re: The unreleased SEGA 'Saturn 2' and The Dreamcast Story
Both DK64 & Majora's Mask are REQUIRED to run with the EX Pak. Like the Saturn RAM carts, it was designed to add more RAM data to the CPUs so that the console's internal BUS could procces more data that was required for the ROM, adding extra content not accessible by itself stored on the Cartridge or CD ROM. Hence the terms "Backup" & "Expansion". The EX Pak & Saturn 4MB is extra memory for the CPUs. More RAM data allows more instructions.Comrade Snarky wrote:It doesn't matter what you were talking about because you don't know what you're talking about.

EX produced more graphical data and more game content not accessible by the console on its own. You can easily google or wiki & it'll say the same thing.
So I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about.

Re: The unreleased SEGA 'Saturn 2' and The Dreamcast Story
Yes, I know. I have those games. Parts of Perfect Dark also required the expansion pack, and many other games offered higher resolution when using it. I'm not sure why you're now saying it adds RAM (which it does) when you were saying "backup data" before. I guess you googled it, but you were too proud to admit I was right?
More RAM does not allow more instructions though. You seem to have a poor grasp on how computers or consoles function. How many instructions that a system can handle is determined by the way the CPU is manufactured. Again, RAM is for loading files that a game needs to access quickly.
