So it is! So sorry about that. I didn't even realize that it was the same modem.Kaizoku ChaosStar wrote:Isn't that the exact same modem Ryochan7 uses for his guide?

Re: PC - DC Server Compatible Modem List
Sorry to bump this old thread, but I've just updated my modem list on this thread (2nd post). The good news is that I've managed to test some modems with my Ubuntu 12.10 and I haz success
(I compiled the hsfmodem driver with the new 3.5 Kernel ^^).

Re: PC - DC Server Compatible Modem List
Sorry for another bump, but i thought i would add another usb modem to this thread. It's branded as a Rosewill RNX-56USB, but it is a conexant based hardware modem. I'm currently using one, coupled with a phone line sim, with a revision b dreamcast modem.

Re: PC - DC Server Compatible Modem List
Did you get it to work in Ubuntu, with that modem, as well? I've managed to connect with the Windows 98 method, but it doesn't hold up with online gameplay.Neoblast wrote:Conceptronic USB 56k voice fax modem works ( C56U model ).
It has a conexant chipset and runs power through the USB.
Connection! Hooray!!!

So, do software modems work? My pc has a PCI soft modem from '04. It's a conexant modem.

Re: PC - DC Server Compatible Modem List
I have used multiple software modems. They usually work as long as you have the drivers. Due note though that if you are going to be using the vmware method, the pci card will be really slow since it is being emulated. PSO apparently works fine with it though.

Re: PC - DC Server Compatible Modem List
I'm using a "Toshiba Software Modem" that came built-in on my Qosmio X300-15T laptop. I don't know if it needs a voltage spike because I use a Skutch AS-26 Line Simulator to get around the no-dial-tone issue- and that of course provides the adequate voltage automatically. As I'm from the UK I've had to use a stepdown converter to use the simulator device that came as 110V as opposed to my country's 220V mains. Using Windows 8.1, I set up a dial-in connection and made sure it always hands out one of two possible IP addresses so the dreamcast is bridged onto my broadband network and gets it's own IP for port forwarding independent of the laptop. Windows always seems to assign the second possible IP so I know which one to port forward for. Confirmed working for Quake III. I haven't tested it with Linux because my current setup works but if anyone wants me to try testing it, I'd be willing to.
EDIT: My Dreamcast Modem is version A. I was going to get a broadband adapter rather than fiddle with dialup but unfortunately when I ordered one that I thought was a good price, it turned out to be another modem, in a broadband adapter box (complete with CD still sealed) so I can only guess the original owner got scammed! I did manage to get a refund, but it has put me off trying to get a broadband adapter for the time being.
