EDIT: I found that the modem you bought is detected natively in linux and is a hardware modem .
This device is a real modem, and "just works." No special softmodem driver or other nonsense is required. Recent linux kernel versions detect it as a USB CDC ACM device, and present a generic serial interface you can use with a terminal application, getty, hylafax, or a PPP dialer. Gnome PPP and wvdial detect and configure this modem automatically. It is suitable for applications where you might otherwise need to hook up a USB to serial adapter and then an external modem, and available for a fraction of the cost and size.
Yeah that's why I have high hopes for said modem coming in the mail. My VM specs are as follows:
VMware Fusion (for Mac)
Win98se
512mb of ram
4GB hdd
Modem is captured INSIDE the VM and installed with its own drivers and not through a virtual serial or whatnot
I have no problems picking the line and connecting but it is just crappy and unstable with what I believe to be with the Zoom modem being a soft modem. My line sim seems to be fine, no shorts or anything and it is hooked up to the wall via a 9v dc transformer.
Yeah its an ASUS P5W DH Deluxe
8GB Ram
2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo
Snow Leopard 64 bit
Here's something interesting I just noticed moments ago. I joined a room on the PSOpalace server and it seems if I am playing with people the connection is completely fine and runs perfect. However as soon as they left the room not a minute later I get black screens and a line disconnect.
You should check you phone chord and your line voltage inducer and make sure the connections and the resister is right. If the inducer is a little off it can mess things up.
I followed it to spec. I'm pretty pro when it comes to the soldering game. The 1UF cap and a 390ohm resistor and instead of a battery I went with a 9v transformer.

what modem is it? what os do you want to use it with?
I have a stable setup using crunchbang on a netbook, 3095 modem, LVI, A series modem, using pso, planetweb, and dreamkey. Haven't tested anything else.
win98 can be unstable even when everything is setup properly. I still think linux is the best option.
That modem could work work. I normally use windows 98 (Actually i use ME) but its the same thing. You just have to have the driver for it. Windows 98 setup is a little easiar but if its a conexant then linux is good.
