Thanks DreamState.
Yes, I think it should be easy enough to do on the router. I suppose my only concern was whether this change could negatively effect the connection for any of my other more modern appliances (laptop, phone etc.). Have you noticed it causing any such problems?
Went online yesterday and had a run through of the endless nightmare quest with a random player who kindly reminded me about lots of important things I'd forgotten about. Hoping to logon for the regular DC-Talk/Dreamcast-Live meetup this evening.

Nice! I may very well be on this evening too if the missus is in a good mood! No, I’ve not experienced any connection issues with my other devices in the place. Everything runs smooth as before. Look forward to seeing you online!

Re: PSO Online - Advice Sought by Returning Player
Turns out I spoke too soon. My Vodafone router doesn't have any options, even in the advanced settings, to change the MTU. Some online searches appear to have told me this is fairly common now.
So, I have two options. Set the MTU at the device level (I.E. on the pi itself) or buy a third-party router to replace the one provided by my ISP. The former would be preferable, although I really know very little about the raspberry pi, or how to change the MTU on it! If anyone here happens to know what to do, or can point me in the direction of some online guidance, that would be hugely appreciated.
