At least now we can rule out the box is not working. So there's that... ;)

What brand and model is the big one if I may ask?...

That's exactly what you do is as you have done with the small tv. My rgb though wasn't highlighted as selectable so I manually move over to select mine and force it. Also it shows my display has to be at either 4:3 or 16:9. I messed with this a lot and then it just worked. I have read Samsung tvs have an issue with the Dreamcast. I'm off to find somewhere to upload this poor quality video.

Indeed there is.

The model is the Sony KDL-40S5500, 40 inch.

I'm going to have a look for the manual tonight online.

Thanks

Ah, thanks very much for doing the video.

Much appreciated.

Found the manual, shall have a flick through

EDIT: I'll also add something I just remembered,
A few years ago, we connected an only laptop to the TV via VGA, and that worked fine.

So we have actually had a signal working on that Chanel before.

Yup, the TV takes a 640x480 signal. I just checked.

So I decided to dig a little further... :P

Thanks for the links.

I'm a little confused, though, I must admit! :P

The first link seemed to conclude that the dreamcast didn't output 640x480 which didn't really make sense, but then the second link talk about how the console could output 640x480 via VGA.

I wasn't really sure what was being explained in the second link either. . .
It seemed to suggest I'll be needing a modified box to be able to over come the "out of range" issue, the third like appearing to prescribe to the same train of thought - either getting a modified box or adding some sort of second converter to the chain that converts the VGA signal into component or HDMI :|

I wasn't sure what most of the things were that were being talked about in either the third or second link, so it looks like I have some research to do!
There were several links within the text that explained further so I'll have a look. Seems interesting.

Just tried changing the aspect ratios when on the selected input as one of the comments suggested, but unfortunetly it wasn't possible when on the PC input.
Just doesn't let you change them.

Haven't read all of what was in the links to be honest. Just went over it enough to get the gist of it... :P

The short story. I think your screen has to support 720x480 and not 640x480.

Even though the DC only uses the inner 640x480.

Your screen doesn't support 720x480 natively from the looks of the first link I sent you.

So I think the only way for you to use VGA is with a VGA to component / HDMI converter.

The switch they are talking about, I don't think that's a good solution for you.

I think the 15kHz switch just changes the VGA signal to the same RGB signal a SCART has, but over the VGA connector.

And if I'm not mistaken that 15kHz signal is interlaced, not progressive.

That switch is probably more for people using an arcade monitor.

Again, if someone sees me make mistakes, correct me please.

Commenting on and helping with stuff I don't fully grasp makes me nervous... lol

I see, that makes sense.

Looks like I'll be buying one of those converters then.

Thanks for the help!
