Given that they're still sold by the publishers, yeah, I'd imagine that indie games get a bit more of a hit than downloading a Sega game in 2015.
That said, I wish that indie games that were out of print got dumped.

Man, this game is good! a bit challenging at points. but they do it in a way that literally makes you go "NO! I CAN BEAT THIS!" i like that the story is simple and easy to follow, but still interesting! i cant believe i didnt own this as a child!

another question pertaining to this. since im burning games. am i also able to play pal games? or does the region lock still apply?

Depends. If it's a straight rip of a PAL game, it would only work on a PAL unit (or with a boot disc). If the ripper has modified the game to be region free, you'd be good to go.
