So one would have to have access to the japanses version of the game? It's not as simple as changing language on your dreamcast I guess :|

No, it's as simple as changing the languange

Once you do the quest , you will receive the items, then simply quit and change the languange to english again so you can understand wich items you got.

no you don't need to have the same vmu in the save. i have the downloadable content on 2 different vmu's so just put it in load the quest pull it out easy enough
So I have the quest working, but I'm wanting to make a backup of the quests (incase we ever loose access to them) on my extra 4x memory card.

I did download all of them directly onto the card, 2 quest per each block + the 7th on the last, but I cannot use this vmu-swap trick to load them.

The quest only seem to work for me on the character that I use to download them.

Each block did have a guild card, but I deleted the character from them. I'll try again without deleting the base character from each block.

Are you sure that it will work that easily?

Maybe if you use Dream Explorer to take protection off of the quest save then it will work for anybody?

I've been fiddling with this for a while now, here are a few facts you can add to the guide;

When changing your language to japanese, the order of the 7 quests are as follows;

1 Soul of a Blacksmith
2 Letter from Lionel
3 Retired Hunter
4 PSO famitsu cup
5 Fire Swirl
6 Soul of Steel
7 Sunset

This is what I assume is true / have been told / appears to be true;

~Famitsu cup & sunset are japanese exclusive quests / were never ported to US, and even if they are on your memory card, you won't "see" them unless your language is japanese. Likewise, if you have an english quest, you won't "see" it unless your language is english.

~You cannot do this quest twice with one character to gain multiple items. If you want both devil wings & angle wings, then you must do it with two characters (or just backup your character on another vmu...). The Chu Chu mag that the rappy gives you that is exclusive to androids is no different from the one the kid gives you in town. (see KIREEK's guide for details on this)

~I haven't had time to do Soul of a Blacksmith more than testing both versions, so I don't know if one can repeat the quest with the same character - anyone know this?

~Downloading the english version of Soul of a Blacksmith is pointless unless you just want experience - only the japanese version of the quest rewards you with unique items - and only in the ultimate difficulty (depending on which item you pick, you must use the blue material from cave 3!!! Avoid the other two!!!)

~There might be a different background music in the Fire Swirl quest depending if you download the japanese vs english version, if anyone really cares.

~When it comes to space saving, you can fit the famitsu cup & retired hunter on one card with a character + guild card, leaving 1 empty block out of the 200. I'm still sorting out / playing with vmu-swaping, not sure if its possible ~~

Is there any sound guide for the famitsu quest?

I spent 23 min running around talking to / randomly selecting answers, touching ~LOTS~ of invisible switches & hearing random invisible triggers from walking against all walls, experiencing lots of fun game gimmicks (a very disorientating get from point A to point B sort of setup), only to have my dreamcast lag to death in caves 2 after a spawn of 10ish lillys (i killed them all immediately, but a few seconds later after opening a door my game froze up).

I tried looking for stuff, but most information just says that its a 30-min rundown to see how many monsters you can kill, and that its a coop game (but its downloaded for singleplayer...). I'm guessing that this is an earlier version of the "known" coop game that most people recognize.

For those who want to try, I suggest using a disc with fast-loading, instead of the official disc like I keep using for offline-play.

I'd like to know more info on this quest before I waste another 20+ min just to have it lock up on me again. I'd like to collect some gold badges for more items :lol:

More info on the Soul of the Blacksmith quest;

~As noted, you can ONLY get the unique items in the ULT difficulty, under the Japanese quest download / japanese language.

~The unique weapons can only be obtained from using the minerals from Caves 3 (run far away from the glinty shiny things in caves 1 & 2!)

~Each character can obtain ONE unique item. If you finish the quest and you want both the Suppressed Gun and God Hand, you must use two characters. The second time you complete this quest, you will just be given a magical item of the selected type.

*I'm not sure how the game saves the notification that you've completed this quest - if its as easy as deleting the quest off your vmu, and reloading it, then that would be awesome! I'll be trying that if noone has a clue.

Why is that important you may ask?

Because the Blacksmith appears to give a +40% bonus on one individual stat on the FIRST item you gain from that difficuty (in my case, Freeze Beam with 40% hit when testing the US quest, God Hands with 40% Forest when testing the japanese quest, but only a Storm Cannon with 10ish/0/0/15ish something when I tried the japanese quest the second time.

~These are the selection choices from the japanese quest, incase you don't want to bother doing it in english to know their order of weapon selection (this is at the end of the quest, when you get to decide what sort of weapon he makes);

#1 - sword type weapons (ult japanese mode with cave 3 material = God Hand)
#2 - gun type weapons (ult japanese mode with cave 3 material = Suppressed Gun)
#3 - wand type weapons (ult japanese mode iwth cave 3 material = Technical Crozier)

I'll be fiddling with this a bit more, as I'd like a way to find a 40% hit Technical Crozier (my forces default "normal attack" is weapons "special," and using this things barta would make box opening quite fun, and % hit on canes is really the only useful %)

More info on the famitsu quest;

1.) The general idea is to make it threw the forest 1, caves 2, and mines 1 (idk if there is any route to the ruins). It's timed, and as far as I can tell, there is no limit? From what I've read online, the famitsu quest has been drastically overhauled on later versions of pso, resulting in a multiplayer rush to get # monster kills in under 30 min, but very little has been recorded about this dreamcast version.

2.) The quest is very unstable, and prone to locking up your dreamcast. Currently we do have the offline quest option on our DC-talk disc, but not he japanese language ones, so you'll have to still use the shithack disc, convert you language, and play it under japanese. BUT you can play it with any disc, and you can reduce the lag / chance to locking up by using the DC-talk disc (which has quick-load).

3.) This is mostly puzzles. The Forest area, you goal is to get the Racaseal something called "Sakura" something something. The goal of the second area is to reach the end (i think your escorting the person you choose?), and the goal of the third area is to catch that damn Ramar.

4.) There is multiple ways to do some of this, for example in the Forest, I'm going to list one route that worked for me... there has to be a better / faster route, and as I list, the rappys give me the sakura thing to give the racaseal - twice the Formarl has given me the Sakura thing...

5.) My little walkthrew is hardly complete. I've skipped over a few warps and neglected opening all boxes and didn't bother picking anything off the floor. I tried grinding against all walls and finding all invisible people, but I'm sure I've missed ~alot~

Here is a little, dirty & unorganized, walkthrew;

(during this entire quest, I ALWAYS selected the first option when asked a question... this probably means that I didn't answer the question right / made myself take more time, as I haven't the faintest as to what's going on. This was also all done on NORMAL, so there is a chance that the quest rewards won't occur here at all! I'd love to know what difficultly one starts to obtain badges!?)

Forest;

- talk to principle - answer 1

- talk to girl, answer 1

- talk to boy, 1 1

- talk to computer, 1

- talk to rappys, 1

- talk to empty box space, 1 1

- talk to boy, 1 1

- talk to computer, 1 1

- talk to rappys, 1 1

- talk to boy

- talk to computer

- talk to rappys, gain SAKURA thing

- talk to girl, door opens, continue to the red portal -> caves 2

(*empty box space = between the boy's room and the rappy room, there is a pile of boxes, and in the corner you can't naturally see after you destroy them all, is an invisible character)

((** there is also some sort of glitchy invisible sound prompt that occurs when you enter the computers room, and grind against the wall between the two pairs of boxes))

--------------------------------------

Talk to formarl, choose a door other than the one shes at;

One behind the portal gives Type:W, a racast with a shot
One behind the door she is facing gives you HOPKINS, a 21 male force
Door to the right of level start gives a racast with a rifle (type:I I think)

-talk to girl

Next room, hit middle button, unlock rest of buttons

Next room - run! Enter the warp at end room

Next room, good luck, this is irritating. I’ve had good luck hovering around the corners between the rocks and the wall (closer to the locked door), and it then usually warps us inside the little slot. After unlocking the door unlocks too, and you can generally make it out easier. (do note, that the places where you warp are fixed, as in you can see patterns)

Next room, kill things! Hopkins can make very slow, Type:W can also slow things down with his shot.

Next room, there is an invisible switch if you go left as soon as you enter, near the rocks. The other invisible switch is near the center of the rocks closer to the exit door. You can target these as if it were a normal switch (you’ll see the select thing)

*** tendency to crash game in this room for some reason ***

****** sometimes there is no second switch, or when using Hopkins, after walking around in the room a bit, he unlocks the door…. *****

Next room - kill

- Next room (open rainbow waterfall room) - kill, try and hit the switch. There are strange invisible traps in here that just lock you up. Hit the dialog/talk option and wait for the silly animation to stop, then proceed. If you keep your path strait, you’ll maybe hit 3 in the room.

Hallway - I go strait first, kill everything you can and go near the red locked door, walk towards the island thing where you know you can’t cross the water… but imagine you could? Head strait for the island and you will run into an invisible switch and spawn the last critters, kill em’

-Warp room, to island, go threw doors, scoot threw the laser fences and buttons (not really effective at stopping you…)

- next room, hit the two floor switches

- go threw the normal door (not the unlocked one), and talk to the jelly fish, kill, maybe talk to the jelly fish again?

- go back to last room & go threw the door you unlocked from the floor switches, head threw the jellyfish corridor

- next room has 4 invisible switches, one right to the right of the door you enter from, one behind each laser fence switch, and the last is along the water bank closer to the far door. Most of the switches unleash a critter, that when killing unlocks another part of the door.

- go threw the now unlocked door, your friend will leave you when you go near the currently locked door, and that door will become unlocked

***** lag moment, possible crash place ****

- next room - talk the the female force, go to mines 1

-------------------------------

- talk to the ramar, 1

- chase him…sorta, if you stay near the middle part of the room closer to the last door, you can tag him easier. Just button mash A and accept the irritating sound until he finally talks to you again.

- next room - kill, take the left door (if you were going strait from the door you entered from)

- next room… the green one (his arrow on the map) you can tag when he ports to the center part, and eventually it will poof, as far as I know, the real one (the blue arrow) doesn’t port to the middle, and you’ll have to go tag him with some leg work.

-Go strait instead of taking the right door and into the small room, it looks empty, but there is an invisible someone to talk to in the center.

- take the other door now, kill, go to the next room, and the right door down to the “central hub” of the mines level (that room that always seems to signify that you’ve made it halfway threw the mines), kill

- next room, kill, take right exit first to unlock the fence and hit two switches. DO go to the central platform after unlocking the switch, as to the right of the fence is an invisible character, talk then return (there is a warp around here that i forgot to adventure with)

- next room (after backtracking), kill, go to the only unlocked door & hit some switches, go to the empty room and play more annoying catch. He drops traps after a few tags, multiple times, and finally runs to the corner, and when talking to him once again, he unlocks that door, allowing you to go to pioneer 2...

------------------------------------

My game crashed after porting to town and talking to the principle. I don't think I got anything, but I did play it on normal difficulty. I only got up to the principle once, my game has crashed three times out of the three I've tried this quest. The only time I got up to the principle my time was 48 min / some seconds.

edit; more goodies on the soul of the blacksmith;

~Reloading the quest does nothing, strictly 1 item per character...so make a backup of your character and get the items you want, then ask someone to help you transfer it over :mrgreen:

~Its not strictly +40% to one attribute. That seems to be the max, but the blacksmith does give you generally good %'s. After doing the quest successfully four times (twice with backups so I can obtain more items), I have a; 40% forest god hand, 20% hit suppressed gun, 30%caves + 40% hit suppressed gun, and a 40% caves + 25% hit technical crozier

~ignore what pictures you've seen of people using the suppressed gun, and ignore the fact that its a handgun class... only rangers can use it in pso v2... and its not that great, a little better than a varista...maybe

edit; also, when selecting blacksmith items, the first choice is the God Hand, the second is the Suppressed Gun, and the third is the Crozier. Didn't bother picking the last one...
