There are some in the community that can improve mame but may need a bit curating so each game whatever it is, will run perfect without having to change settings up for best performance, some romsets may be problematic too

The best solution is porting arcade games on the dreamcast. It's better than the emulation. Ian michael with Hoffman has ported shinobi port arcade version 60 ips 100 % perfect on the dreamcast with dreamneo cd 3.0. It's very perfect. Others arcade games portages comming. The white lady is alive in 2025. 👌👍

Its still emulation with dream neo, porting can be taxing, your not dealing with C code, your dealing with assembly, which all has to be rewritten for C

The emulation will get better at some point, if someone wants to take on porting by all means go for it

I hope the emulation improves, there is always that possibility. However, I repeat, consider that as long as there is no progress, Mame4all is still a good alternative, its emulation is very enjoyable. In fact, it's better than all the MAMEs that have ever existed for DC. Let's enjoy it :-)

Are there any games that work perfectly with zero frameskip in mame4all? Even if they are old 1980's games? That needs to be found out so a new collection can be made. Then work can begin on the emulator to make the ones that don't work better.

There's over a thousand games in mame4all romset so it can become a massive undertaking of trying to figure out what to do to the emulator. And also overwhelming playing with settings and recording them all to get each game working correctly.

This is theoretical speculation and someone like Ian would have to say if it's possible.
Each time you get a game to work correctly, write the settings down so they can be put into a config file of some sort. The config file could then load the settings used at emulator start instead of members having to remember them.

Using the newest skymenu collections like what you are doing now could be definitive. If we get a couple hundred games working correctly this way it narrows the focus of work needed for the emulator to play the remaining games correctly. This is the type of work that can be done now.

Settings i used for games and notes i made along with it

MAME4ALL AGED

Contra
to much frameskip and audio is way to slow, no matter the audio clock, to choppy to play

MAME4ALL CLASSIC

64th Street
Does Not Work

Altered Beast (Version 1 & 2)
HW Scaled
Frameskip Auto
Video clock: 70%-90%
Vsync Off
Sound Accurate and On
Audio clock 100%

Game is way to choppy with auto frameskip and is to slow with 0 frameskip, audio seems to be in pitch and stays in speed until screen has more enemies, then the sound driver cant keep up and audio slows down, coincidentally the version 2 rom works fine with 0 frameskip because....theres no audio at all

Double Dragon
Wont go past rom check, does not work

Double Dragon (Bootleg)
Completely unplayable, to slow right from the start

E-Swat
Does not Work, resets dreamcast

Earth Defense Force
Resets dreamcast

Gradius
HW scaled
Auto frameskip
Video Clock: 80%
Vsync off
Sound: Off
Audio clock:80%

Game plays okay except that the audio sounds like a dying telephone on life support, something is severely wrong with this audio driver, it literally sounds like its trying to rearrange notes, its bizarre

Growl
Resets Dreamcast

Ikari Warriors (US)
Rom check error

Ikari Warriors III (Japan & Japan Bootleg)
Rom check error

P-47
Resets dreamcast

Robocop (Bootleg)
HW Scaled
Auto Frameskip
Video clock 80% to 100%
Vsync Off
Sound Accurate and On
Audio Clock 100%

Channels must be missing from the audio from this rom, something just seems off with it, not sure about pitch, overall game is decently playable

Shadow Dancer (Japan)
Fails to load rom, not even sure why this is on here, this is a system 18 game, which to my knowledge, this emulator never had support for it

Super Hang On
Resets Mame4all

Super Hang On (Bootleg)
Completely messed up, not only does it run super slow, but the controls seem to not work right on this one, ran this one on every setting

Tetris (Sega)
restarts Mame4all

MAME4ALL GOLD

1941
HW Scaled
Auto Frameskip
Video Clock 80%
Vsync: Off
Sound: Accurate and On
Audio Clock: 140?

This game comes off like its going to run decent but just has to much frameskip, audio slow down and speeds back up, by the 2nd level, the frameskip just becomes to much

Cadillacs and dinosaurs

Video: HW Scaled
Frameskip: Auto
Video Clock: 80%-100%, have mine set at 100%
Vsync: Off
Sound: Accurate and On
Audio Clock: 120% to 130%

Im sure this could be done much better now

Captain commando
HW scaled
Auto frameskip
70% to 90% video clock
Vsync off
Accurate and on sound
Audio clock 180% to 200%

No matter what the first few seconds into the first level it ends up slowing the audio down, the game runs decent

The Punisher
Hw scaled
Auto frameskip
Video Clock: 80% to 100%
Vsync Off
Accurate and on sound
Audio clock 140%

game will play fine but when there are shooting sections, some pretty ugly frameskip going on, but other than that, playable minus those issues, audio once again out of pitch, tried all settings on audio clock

TMNT (4 Players USA)
Video HW Scalec
Frameskip: Auto
Video Clock: 80%
VSync Off
Sound: Accurate and on
Audio Clock: 140%

Runs choppy but playable, audio pitch almost correct but slightly off, some audio glitches during boss fights and some really bad choppy frames during the 3rd level, Ians version from 2003 is better and im sure very soon, you'll see a much improved version

Varth (World/Japan)
HW scaled
Frameskip: Auto or 2-3
Video Clock: 80%-90%
Vsync: Off
Sound: Accurate and on
Audio Clock: 130%

Was able to get sound correct i think, but I could be off a bit, the game runs pretty choppy but its still playable up to the 2nd level where things really take a dive on frames

Warriors of fate
Hw scaled
Auto frameskip
Video Clock 80% to 100%
Vsync Off
Sound accurate and On
Audio Clock: my guess 90%

This game plays great actually havent tested 0 frameskip but with auto, this actually runs pretty good, problem tho, the audio is also out of pitch again and its so off that audio clock is set lower because amything higher than that plays the audio super fast so that one needs more testing

Will do more testing hope this helps

DO NOT WORK
Classic
64th Street
- Restarts dreamcast
Double Dragon
- Wont go past rom check
Earth Defense Force
- Restarts Dreamcast
Ikari Warriors (US)
- Rom check error
Ikari Warriors (Japan & Japan Bootleg)
- Rom check error
P-47
- Restarts dreamcast
Super Hang On
- Resets Mame4all

Will do more testing hope this helps
Excellent! I will add your configuration suggestions. Thanks for reporting. Indeed, those games do not work in any of the versions of MAME that I have tried. In Mame4all beta-2 all SNK games have rom error, but in the "SNK 80's collection" you can find this working roms, because added another mame version.

In mame4all emulation, used lower values to get more performance but probably several more games would not run correctly, the clocks are from the emulated processors, then it is easier for the dreamcast to emulate lower values, however, if the music has low speed or the game demands cpu like many sprites per screen it is convenient to raise the percentage a little like Cadillac and Dinosaurs, but avoid raising the percentages too much, because if I dedicate, for example, a large percentage to sound, I lower the overall performance. Well the rule is that the sum of the clocks is equal to 200 to not generate overload in the emulation. In the case of SFII I left both clocks at 60% because increasing the sound percentage did not significantly improve it, instead a lot was gained with the emulation performance.

So, this is how I set it up:

Cadillacs and dinosaurs

Video: HW Scaled
Frameskip: Auto
Video Clock: 80%
Vsync: Off
Sound: Accurate and On
Audio Clock: 120%

Captain commando
HW scaled
Auto frameskip
70% video clock
Vsync off
Accurate and on sound
Audio clock 130% (sorry, no cost/benefit on 180%, a just little bit sound quality difference)

The Punisher
Hw scaled
Auto frameskip
Video Clock: 80%
Vsync Off
Accurate and on sound
Audio clock 120%

Warriors of fate
Hw scaled
Auto frameskip
Video Clock 80%
Vsync Off
Sound accurate and On
Audio Clock: 90%

I tested the games and working fine.
