Yes, that would be Shadowmask, who's a friend of mine.

The CDIs, even at half the bitrate of the GDIs, are definitely of higher quality than the Saturn Cinepak version.

wow, this is a whole lot of work. I added this to my collection a few months ago. I sorted all the crazy filenames into order (by seeing the ... days left left at the beginning of each) and used the official dreamcast magazine menu to make menus to view the videos. I had 4 copies of the menu per disk. main had "videos 1-20" "21-40" and "41-60" and all the bonus stuff. So I did the first 5 discs then on disc 6 i thought "hmm whats that big bin" set up an ip.bin to boot it and found playes for all 6 discs!!!! After 3 days of fixing! The only good thing that came out of it was 9 CDIs (I put 40 vids per disc and didn't downsample anything.....)

And all the time i was working on it I was thinking "hmmm I sort of got an idea, but would LOVE to really know whats going on" so I've got a real treat here, all thanks to you. Kudos.

ps. when I started making the cdi's I tried downsampling first but the Mil-CD player software would play the movie as if it was the original file length, bleeding into the next video, starting without audio. all kinda issues. maybe it holds a record of the file length, maybe my re-encoding was dud (I use FFMPEG)

Anyway top work, I'm off to watch it now, then I'll use your 1.1 files to re-make my CDIs and try to get the player software to work with the 9 discs!!!!, if not it'll still be on Dreamcast Magazine menu. Thanks a million! so excited to watch it!

I see the movie has the buttons to Pause/RW/Play It would be perfect if the engine could be used to addapt another movies for playing in the console?

While not MiL-CDs themselves, this "game" just uses SEGA's own MiL-CD software, which has been documented and can be used to spin up your own multimedia discs. Try searching this forum and Google, you'll find some info.

Note that a v1.2 release will be forthcoming to address what I believe (hope?) to be the final typos. I'm going to wait a bit longer before I do so though, just to be sure.
