Lol, Dreamcast is a 128bit system, so I'll bet that is what confused him.

Ram wise it only has 16mb. Video ram its got 8. total that's 24mb's. The Dreamcast actually has double the video ram of the PS2's 4mb.

Anyway, not sure how to explain the 128bit part, but I will let somebody else smarter take a shot at it for you.

The funny thing about the Dreamcast is that its a mixed bag of chips, Its not a true 128bit system, The CPU is a 32bit with an on-die 128-bit vector graphics engine. the arm7 CPU is a 32/64bit hybrid chip which is a audio controller.

The definition of a “Bit” is that it is a unit of measurement of information.

although it doesn't really get into the Dreamcast hardware but you might find useful to understand it more http://forum.teamxbox.com/showthread.php?t=247019

I never realised the DC had an arm7 cpu. I always thought it was a Hitachi risc CPU with a Videologic Power graphics chip and a Yamaha audio chip. I was also led to believe it had 26 mb RAM. I'm not that knowledgeable about these thing though, that's what I was told years ago and it's stuck in my mind ! lol

It does have a hitachi cpu.The sh4 cpu takes care of t&l on the dreamcast, which I guess means the gpu doesnt generate the polygons but the cpu does while doing transfromations and lighting?.also it does have 26 mb of ram, its something like : 16 mb main ram,8 mb video ram and 2 mb for the sound chip.It does have a arm cpu in running to work with the yamaha sound set up.On dcemulation.org they are discussing the arm cpu and how badly it was implemented and how very useless it is in the grand scheme of the machine.

This is all from memory so correct if iam wrong.

Ah yes, thanks, the 2mb for the sound chip - that explains the 26mb. It's obviously a very complex machine, way beyond what I can comprehend !

me confooosed now lol. I got confused between RAM and bit, ignore me ;)

Reminds me of the confusion around whether the Atari Jaguar was 32 or 64, why not make it simple!! lol

@Anonymouse, I just tried to set up a new MSN account and got this message.

"We're unable to complete your request
Windows Live ID is experiencing technical difficulties. Please try again later."

I think that was my problem with it last time, and I tried 2 different emails.

funnily enough my yahoo account has been hacked by what appears to be a spam bot, has anyone else had this lately? Has yours been fixed? I reported it but nothing so far, they are a bit shit.

Back on topic!! No further news on this one lately then? I can't wait for Tahi but something tells me it will be another 5 years plus before we see the results lol
