Almost online

Hi Everyone,
I've posted on online consoles too, but no replies so far :(

Got a windows 98 PC setup went through all the steps at: http://dreamcast.onlineconsoles.com/phpBB2/guides_pcdcwin98.php

The DC is not connecting to the PC. I've made a recording of the dial up sound at the PC end, maybe someone more knowledgeable could give me a few pointers as to where I might be going wrong...

http://www.audoc.org/DC/Dreamcast.mp3

If not I might try the Linux guide...

Cheers,

Nathan.

Hi, Nathan

Unfortuneatly I don't have much experience with the PC-DC Setup. I tryed to set it up on a windows XP PC and it didn't work out too well. I'm pretty sure its impossible to get it to work on XP.

Here is guide by Michael K Ter Louw. The guide was hosted at consolevision which is no longer. And the dumb web archive doesnt ectend to the pages on the site that actually include the guide. So here s a link to his old guide: http://web.archive.org/web/20050207020237/home.elp.rr.com/terlouw/

Check out that guide for further info that may help you out connecting. Sorry thats all the advice I can give you for win 98 setup.

The problem is, the DC is looking
for a true tone not just a simulated{recorded tone}.
Usually, getting past the dial-tone is acheived by
first plugging the Dreamcast into the phone wall
plate for a few seconds. Second, unplug it from the
wall, then connect it to the PC modem.

OK, I'll try that. I thought PSO could blind dial so didn't need to have a dial tone to connect? It's a bit of a pain as there is no phone socket near my DC setup. Maybe I'll run an extension to test at the weekend.

Thank guys for your help so far.

Are you using an external modem or an internal modem? That could be the cause of the problem. I tried using an internal modem (two actually) and was unable to play a game online.

I just found a link to an archive of the old consolevision guide.

http://www.maturion.de/dreamcast/mterlouw/

The link was posted under the following post on the SCHTHACK forums.

http://s7.zetaboards.com/PSO_SERVER_HOM ... 8&t=266878

My PC-DC server uses Ubuntu Linux for the operating system. I tried to get a PC-DC server working under Windows XP but I couldn't get it working.

Thanks for posting the link ryochan7.

I tried to get it to work using xp and I had no luck too. I don't think anyone has gotten it to work with xp yet. But, Mytho may have using an external 56k modem. Not sure of his OS.
