The KIDSPAD will be passed off as an iPad game machine. It will likely have apps simluar to DS and will be able to handle most current gen titles. Since it will contain a faster GPU processor than PS Vita it will also be able to compete graphically against PS3.

Sources have told me that Apple is DEFINETLY invovled in KIDSPAD's development and design. It turns out, Apple and IP Techologies have not and have no plans to allow American companies to sell iPad clones. Only oversea companies are allowed to but they still need premssion from Apple. SEGA would not be premitted to sell KIDS PAD without Apple's knowledge.

Thus Apple knows about KIDS PAD. they exclusively own the patent design and techology to iPad, No other company has any knowledge on how to design one unless they had contact with Apple.

To anyone that tries to dispute KIDS PAD as nothing more than a prototype trademark like a Gizomundo journalist atempted to several months ago, trust me its not. Prototype trademarks like SEGADRIVE are filed, suspended at least once and take over a year to be registered. They also don't have more than one record and have a basic description about a sentence or two. KIDS PAD has TWO recorded trademark documents. A standard one and one with an actual logo design. The standard one was filed in February, the more detailed one was filed on March 11. The standard mark's deadline for international usage is in 2 weeks. The more detailed mark international usage is September 11,2011.

The fact that the mark has a 2 paragraph long description, and the fact that there two records of the same mark indicates that SEGA will definetly use this trademark.

So why hasn't SEGA annouced the project yet? I suspect the March 11 Tsunami is the main culprit. The project's annoucement which was orginally set for May was pushed back several months.

You're opinion is incorrect. SEGA's branding for home consumer products and licensing was renewed in 2000. This means the actual renewal of the SEGA hardware branding to prevent lapsing would have been in 2008 not late 2009 and 2010.

The reason why the hardware home consumer product branding was registered and renewed a year and a half ago is because SEGA abandoned the branding in January 2002, the branding was both renewed and registered in late 2009 just 7 and a half years after it was abandoned which indicates that they will once again sell hardware products for commercial usage in homes in the next decade. If they would let them laspe this would have meant that they were never going to reenter the hardware business.

SEGA is indicating they defintely are interested in selling home consumer products again, funny how the KIDS PAD ended up getting filed just a mere 16 months later.

@MrSega - If Sega had allowed their home consumer branding trademark to lapse like you claim, then Sega would of been prevented from using the iconic blue SEGA logo on any of their home console software products for that 7 and a half year period, that obviously never happened since Sega has been releasing games on the PS3/Xbox360/Wii and the handhelds in that time period and ALL those games had the Sega logo on it. Sega NEVER stopped selling consumer products. I think you are reading too much in to this, but thats just my opinion. :|

@craziestrufis - The trademarks I was commenting on were the 2 that you posted that referred to the SEGA logo and the SEGA name.

stu, there is a seperate trademark document registered in 2002 that allows SEGA to sell, license, develop and distribute software games and IPs. The trademarks that crazietrufis is talking about is completely unrelated to the branding of SEGA's IP trademark.

Here's the SEGA brand and logo IP licensing mark for software only:

That trademark is for for "Providing temporary access to non-downloadable software for playing video, computer and online games." Most likely this trademark is for playing online games only. And having read through the other trademarks they are also for software as well.

These are the 2 trademarks that craziestrufis posted:

http://www.trademarkia.com/sega-75167958.html

Quote: " Goods and Services: video game machines for use with televisons; electronic gaming machines; [ video game machine accessories, namely, power cords, batteries, carrying cases, tuners, electronic memory cards, multi-player adapters, steering wheels, joy sticks, control pads, controllers, power converters, mouses, modems, adapters, and cables, ] video game software; computer game software; [ and bicycle helmets ]

This trademark grants Sega the rights to use their brand on any of the above products, it INCLUDES video game software, (eg console and handheld games) and also computer game software, which would likely include PC games, it is NOT for hardware only.

In addtion maybe we can look forward to some Sega branded bicycle helmets!

Here's the 2nd trademark:

http://www.trademarkia.com/sega-73742284.html

Quote: " Goods and Services: VIDEO GAME ATTACHMENTS FOR TELEVISION SETS, NAMELY, VIDEO GAME CONTROL STICKS, [ VIDEO GAME BEAM PROJECTORS, SPECIAL EFFECTS GLASSES FOR USE WITH VIDEO GAMES, ] VIDEO GAME PROGRAMS RECORDED ON INTEGRATED CIRCUITS IN THE FORM OF CARTRIDGES AND CARDS"

This trademark also grants Sega the rights to use their brand on software as well, but it specifies cartridges and cards. Like with the trademark above it is NOT for hardware only.

I still believe that renewing these trademarks is a merely a routine legal procedure for Sega and not a "magic sign" that Sega is about to start making it's own consoles again.
