Mac-Dc server

i also just sort of getting the hang of setting the DNS for things in the dreamcast
Was able to get a server list in quake 3 lol heard thats impossible in a dc-pc

its not impossible its just unlikely. i have gotten the list a few times by chance but most of the time i have to enter IPs manually. what DNS are you using?

I tried CU and Minicom. Cu wont find the port. And when trying the pppd with minicom it says serial loops back and operation failed.

I'll try your instructions for using cu. I noticed the location is different. Maybe that will change something.

Which Mac OS X version are you using?

I'm using 10.5, maybe that is the problem.

Minicom seems to do something. Sometime it will say ok, or no carrier, but pppd wont work anyways. I never got the Dreamcast to connect yet.

I thought it was a -1 in the cu command. hmm, I tried -l but it says "line is in use". It's definitely not in use.

I tried searching for what the modem might be called and I found out the model name is Jump. I tried that with no luck.

Another problem might be in the internet connection sharing. I can't share my Ethernet connection to my internal modem. Maybe its becuase of the newer OS.

I'm going to try this on my friend's mac. Thanks for the help.

I did a fresh install of Mac os x 10.4 Tiger.

Cu seems to work now. It says connected. I typed ATA and then it doesn't do anything. I can't get the Dc to connect. If I hit an arrow or enter it will display "OK", but I never get "CONNECT 57600 " or anything like that after I enter ATA.

It might be the settings on my Dc. I have everything blank except the dial number (I put a 1 there like the guide says). Maybe I should try leaving something in the dns fields. What are your settings?

Edit: I tried leaving the dns fields blank. I also tried 2 different Dc modems. A and the B one. I also tried changing the modem initial by adding a 0.

If I don't hit any keys it will eventually say NO CARRIER. The problem must be with the modem on the ibook. Or with the Dreamcast/settings.

What web browser are you using? Are there any other settings on the Dc you changed?

I never put anything for name, login and pass. That probably won't affect connection anyways. I also don't put an area code. I'll try putting a full number in.

I've given up. I think there is a problem with the modem in the ibook G4. Thanks for all your help. Maybe I will try an external someday.

Shit! It sounds so much simpler on a Mac than on a PC! I also found these instructions here if anyone would like to try these instead.

This seems like the eaisest way yet. Finally Macs are actually compatible with something thats not made by Apple!

You could try that Iolan adapter thing. Its 125 bucks but Dobbs said it might work.
