Best ODE hardware for Dreamcast?

Post by legolas119 »

Hi,
i would like to buy an ODE for my japanese dreamcast, i know there is the MODE from Terraonion and it is really good but it is not so easy to install it and it it really expensive.
I read about the GDEMU, it is cheaper and it seems easy to install: do you know if it has a perfect compatibility with Dreamcast? And how can i know which is the original GDEMU? In the produce website it isn't clear https://gdemu.wordpress.com/ which is the producer and now it is out of stock. I searched it on Amazon, but there are a lot of clones...which is the original brand?

thank you!

Pretty sure that is the only place to get an authentic GDEMU. Think they are about $200 vs $240 for the MODE. I have both, the MODE is just as easy to install as the GDEMU.

With MODE I like the menu, file loading, being able to use folders(very nice when you have hundreds of games) I have also had better luck with MODE working with homebrew roms. Sadly it dosen't work with an overclocked Dreamcast though, so I use GDEMU in my #1

What homebrew have you run on MODE?

Try to get original gdemu from https://gdemu.wordpress.com/ if you can. They can be updated. If not then get a clone with the newest firmware. I believe it's 5.20.3 or something like that. Clone will def be cheaper but cannot be updated.

thank you guys.
Yes i know, the GDEMU clone can't be updated, so it is realy important to find a clone updated to the latest firmware 5.20.3 but it is not easy to do that...it isn't specified the firmware :( The producer of GDEMU said that he has a couple of GDEMU available (he fixed the SD card holder because it was faulty).
The MODE has a better UI for sure and i know that it runs not original dreamcast games too like games converted from atomiswave (Rumble Fish 1&2, Dolphin Blue): is GDEMU able to support these games too?

I don't know it is simpler to install GDEMU or MODE...do you have any suggestion about that?
thanks!

GDEMU ran every Atomiswave game I tried, but I didn't try all of them. GDEMU and MODE are pretty much the same to install
