Update: It seems this rumor has been greatly exaggerated. Yu Suzuki simply answered "It's a possibility" when asked if he would consider Kickstarter to fund Shenmue III.

So there's another rumor circulating around that Shenmue III may become a Playstation 4 exclusive. This rumor is based off of a Tweet from the GM of the Game Developers Conference which shows a picture of Yu Suzuki and the lead architect for the Playstation 4, Mark Cerny, with the caption: "Mark Cerny & Yu Suzuki talking strategy for Shenmue III. For reals you guys.".

To be honest, I don't know why Yu Suzuki who supposedly has permission from Sega doesn't put this to kickstarter. The people who want, and will buy the game don't really care if the game is not a blockbuster budget title with amazing graphics and would be quite happy with DC level graphics running on PC/PSN/Xbox live or even better DC.

We just want close goddammit!

June 3rd, 2013 - Play-Asia is claiming that Shenmue III is confirmed for release on PS4. "We have a Hong Kong industry source and it has also been published in local magazines in Hong Kong.":
