The ultimate next gen comparison

Hey,
the topic is not about ranting with comments like "xbox 360 is shit you buy one it gets broken in like 2 months" and that crap. I feel like i can do this topic because i actually own the 3 systems, and ill make this as objective as i can, no matter how much i want to set aside my preferences, its still going to be subjective somehow. But im doing all i can for it not to be.

Consoles will be compared by the following:
the console itself, games, gamepad and other accesories, multiplayer opportunities, and other uses.

In alphabetical order:

PS3:
The console.
The machine is the most powerful of the three. It has a cutting edge CPU and the rest isnt shit either. Sony fanboys use that argument and therefore state that games looks better on the ps3 than on the 360.

WRONG.

The ps3 is, indeed, superior. But so superior and different its hard to code games for it. So hard developers are forced by their publishers to code for the 360, because its more efficient and less pricey. So most (99%) cross platform games are coded FOR the 360 and PORTED to the ps3, they can NOT look better on a console thats running a PORT. Differences exists, but they are non significant. See for yourself, this is just an example among hundreds...:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XR2X6Wng2Tg

The "extra" power that the ps3 has in its inside is only used for the exclusives it has. Uncharted, Killzone, God Of War, Jack And Daxter.. Its only in those games you can really feel the power that the machine has inside, and its quite something i have to say. Uncharted 2 is just amazing.

Games:

Ive covered this point actually mostly in the last paragraph. Cross platforms games do not run any better on this one than on the others. So when it comes to games, you need to focus on the exclusives.

Gamepad:

Its bad. SONY made a revolution when it created the all mighty Playstation 1, the dual shock is and has been forever an icon. BUT ITS TIME TO MOVE ON! But they just wont. I dont know if its because they dont want to change that "icon" or they just dont feel like it.. Comparing to the Xbox: even from its first generation (first xbox) to this one (360), the gamepad "suffered" some changes. Games evolves, and the tools you use to play them also should change. Not according to sony apparently. The only worth mentioning change is the implementation of the six-axis. But there again: failure. Its doesnt feel right. And im not the only one thinking like that: the first wave of games the ps3 launched has six axis actions. Lair, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted Drakes Fortune.. And little by little, they took off those actions on the newest games.. Just an example: on uncharted 1, when you were on a difficult surface (such as a tree over a river) you have to keep you balance moving around your gamepad like a douchebag. No longer you do that on uncharted 2, you use the stick like a normal person.

Accesories:

Not to many there. Theres that keyboard:
Image
Its a efficient as beautiful. I wont add anything else.. Oh yes: it needs its own power supply, it doesnt take it from the gamepad :). No comments.

The bluetooth headset is fine, best quality you will find. If you like bluetooth headset, this one wont disappoint you.

I havent tried any other accesories so i wont comment about them.

General opinion: not like the 360, the ps3 lets you use all accesories, even non official. If you want a headset, your are not FORCED to get the official one. And usually third party trademark offers cheaper alternatives. So thats great.

On the other hand, it this affects the multiplayer, people may abuse too much of this. To the point of getting the cheapest ever headset manufactured on earth, and that sounds SOOOO fucking bad you can not understand any word.. Better have no headset before having that, seriously.

Multiplayer:

Its good. Not excellent, but it does its job. Whats good about it, is that some games do actually uses dedicated servers, and not the matchmaking host that most platforms uses today.. So thats great. But i personally miss the ability to chat with friend even if they are playing other games, or just the same game maybe, but talking in another channel if i dont want the others players to hear me. Besides that, matchmaking is great, sometime a little bit slow but thats common, unfortunately..
And yeah, its free to play online.

Other uses:

The fat model has backwards compatibility, so thats cool if you got plenty of ps1 and ps2 games you want to replay. And yeah it has a blu ray drive...

But how many people here own blu ray movies? Raise your hands.

Conclusion:
Great consoles if you like its exclusives, the original playstation gamepad, if you dont want to pay for playing online, and if you have blu ray movies.

Xbox 360:

The machine:
Good stuff, powerful enough for whats its suppose to do. Can handle the game it has to offer smoothly. Only two games that suffers from noticeable frame rate looses are mass effect 1 and quake 4, but it has been proven its because of its coding, so blame the developers.

Games:
Like i said on the ps3 section, cross platform games are coded for this console, so you know what to expect. And exclusives: Gears Of War, Halo, Fable, Mass Effect, Splinter Cell, Lost Odissey, Left 4 Dead. I most likely miss some here but thats the most important ones.

Just like what i said for the ps3, if you are choosing the platform just because of the games, you just need to look for their exclusives. Cross platforms games run equally fine.. Dont believe what stupid fanboys say...

Gamepad:

I love it. Im sorry if i can not be objective enough here, but thats the truth. I love that pad. If first perfectly in my hand, has the perfect weight, every button and trigger has a perfect position.. Whatever action i need to do ingame i dont have to force any of my fingers.. Perfect.

Accesories:

Already mentioned it on the ps3 section: if you want accessories on this one, you are pretty much forced to go official. To the point that a couple of months ago theres been an update on xbox that BLOCKED COMPLETELY the use of non official memory cards.. Hundreds of people with all their games saves lost.. forever.. With no warming!! Thats harsh..

Headset: theres two versions. Wired and wireless. The wired version is basically and piece of rotten shit but into a shape of a headset, SORT OF. And yes, im being extremely objective here. Volume: theres a switch for adjusting it thats completely useless. You will have it a maximum, ALWAYS. Sound quality: like someone farting at your hear, but making words. Commodity: none.

Wireless: sounds waay better than the wired one, and its more powerful, its amplified. You can recharge it via usb. Its still too expensive for what it is.

And theres the drumkit and etc for the rock band stuff but ive never touched them so i will not comment about these.

multiplayer:

The best of the three, imo. You pay for it, but its a decent price (30 bucks a year.. Some people pay 15¨just to play ONE game on pc ONE month (World Of Warcraft for example, for the double, you can play ALL games, 12 months.. Good deal, right?) And you get the quality you deserve. Good matchmaking, xbox live parties, talk with who you want to, no matter what theyre doing on the console (just sitting infront of the dashboard, watching a video, playing another game.. doesnt matter)

Some games runs awful, like MW2, but its the people connection whats to blame. Not the XBL network. If people lives far away from you, or are downloading porn meanwhile they play, and the internet worldwide infrastructure is what it is, theres no miracle possible.

other uses:

Can reproduce anything except blu ray. Elite models can play old xbox games.

Conclusion: if you like the exclusivities it has, if you are a hardcore competitive (online) gamer, this one if for you. If you dont mind paying 30 bucks a year.

wii

the console.

Its weak. 480p, just like the previous generation. And the rest of the components is also "outdated". BUT THIS CONSOLE IS NOT ABOUT POWER. SO IT DOESNT MATTER. If you like motion controls, fun games, this is for you. Personally i like having the house of the dead 2, 3 and overkill, and playing them like i was at an arcade. I even got a pistol with it, feels so real, just like in the arcade! Priceless.

Games:

Cross platforms games.. Do not exist. The closest thing there is are cases like "dead space extraction". Which has NOTHING to do with the original dead space. The genre of the game completely changes. Dead space is somekind of survival horror, and the wii game is a on rail shooter, like house of the dead. Nothing in common except for the weapons used and the story. And theres also games like Call Of Duty Modern Warfare, and some Need for Speed, but if you played them on PC/PS3/X360, those are just DOWNGRADED versions. Lets be honest. You might like them before its "funnier" to play them with the wiimote, and that can be true, for some people, not everybody.. But the game itself is downgraded. And im not saying JUST because of the graphics.

So it has good exclusives, fun to play with the wiimote.

Gamepad:

Where the console itself "lacks" of technology (compared to the two others), it BEATS them with the gamepad, just on its own. Most perfect motion sensor so far, rumble AND speaker. For the first time. And its awesome to hear your weapon reload right in your hand. Definitely its a plus. It just feels right. Awesome.

Accessories:

It looses here: accessories on the wii are basically pieces of plastic, but LITERALLY.
Image

You can do the same with freaking legos lmao
Image

Theres also the microphone. And theres only ONE model, up to date, theres no third party compatible. Im going to talk about it on the multiplayer aspect.

multiplayer:

It couldnt be any weaker. Extremely few games actually have multiplayer mode, online that is. The console just can not handle it, multiplayer is something that requires cpu and ram and the machine just doesnt have enough. Thats the way it is. Ingame communication: HO-RRI-BLE.

Like i said theres only one microphone. The wii speak. First of all, i dont personally like the concept. Its not a headset. Its a microphone you put just above, and it grabs EVERYTHING. If the phone rings, if anybody is entering your room.. And there is no mute button. And even if there was, you would actually have to stand up and go to the tv..

And heres the worst part: like i said, theres barely any online capable games. Well, they dont even ALL support that device, theres only THREE games so far compatible with this: monster hunter 3, Animal Crossing, and The Conduit. Thats because the voice chatting system is not managed by the wii network, but by the game server. And because of that, theres even two more downsides(yes, more!)

The voice quality depends on the game, server adjusts the bit rate. On mh3, ITS HORRIBLE. Sounds with distortion. On all games (why do i say "all" if theres only 3? XD) you need to add as a friend the people you want to talk with.. In other words, theres no "public channel". Its not handy to add someone, since you can not send text messages within the game, not talk to them of course, and of course uses not good looking "friend codes".. And for each game, you have a different code. You have a code for the wii itself, if you want to send messages (text or voice) to your friends, and a code for each game.. Not really easy to use..

Other uses:

Just opera. At 480p. This thing can not even read music cds.

Conclusion:
great if you are in love with motion controls, and fun games. If you like online multiplaying, stay away as far as you can from this!

And the winner is The Dreamcast.
with it beating the wii with fighting games and accerories(you need to use a gc controller for brawl wtf) and speed online.
with it beating the PS3 with better online services and webrowser
with it beating xbox 360 by not getting the red ring of death

Services?it has MORE services (downloading full games, demos, renting movies on netflix), and in what exactly is dreamkey better than the ps3s web browser? =\

I own a PS3 and Wii and I previously owned a 360.

360
Pros: Better exclusive games. (at least more good ones)
Better online support
Most people like their controller better. (I personally like the PS3's better but majority wins) Less laggy servers compared to PS3

Cons: They made you pay 100 dollars for a WIFI addon until this new slim Xbox.
They force you to buy their overpriced accessories and not third part ones. (They do make quality products though) You have to pay to play online.
Not as powerful as PS3

PS3
Pros: Very powerful
Nice exclusive game selection. (not as as great as 360 though)
Built in wifi
Not limited to first party accessories
The best entertainment console out of the 3
Free to play online

Cons: Online is more laggy
Was 600 dollars at launch
Now you can't play ps2 games or run linux on slims
Not as good game selection
Controller
The hardware isn't reaching its full potential.

Other notes: It can play Blueray - Not a con or a pro at the moment other than larger game storage.

Wii
Pros: Cheap
Motion controls
great first party games
built in WIFI
classic consoles store
Gamecube compatible
The easiest to hack

Cons: Awful.. just awful third party games (there's a few good ones)
Terrible online gaming
Motion controller (doesn't fit certain games)
Its a Gamecube 1.2
Can't even play DVDs (wtf!?!)
PS2 Online Gaming
