Hey everybody! New to EVERYTHING Dreamcast.

Hello everybody, my name is Dylan and I just got myself a Dreamcast 2 days ago! I am excited to be a part of this community, and eventually make a DreamPi modem.

I don't have any games yet, but I actually got this thing in kind of a freak accident. I always read online that this is a very high quality console and heard A LOT about it from Adam Koralik, who is probably part of this forum. Anyway, I bought these Original Xbox games at a store, and spent 40 dollars. Only 1 out of the 3 games I bought worked, and it was Psychonauts (it is actually a really good game, try it out some time). I took them back and wanted money back, but the guy wouldn't give it. Eventually, I got him to give me the Dreamcast and not pay any extra. Not very exciting, but I am still happy about it.

So, I just have one question: Any games you would reccomend? Not any common ones like MvC1+2 and Typing of the Dead, something almost no-one has ever heard of before.

I hope I can be a part of this community and have a LOT of fun doing so!

Hello and welcome

As for games in this forum there are no unheard of games but I'll try my best.

Horror
Popular choice is code veronica so....
I would go Carrier it's not rare or anything but overlooked and a dreamcast exclusive.

Fighting

For 3d the popular choice is powerstone or doa 2 but the lesser known would have to be heavy metal, spawn, or plasma sword
For 2d the popular choice is street fighter or king of fighters so I would choose last blade 2 as my lesser known one

Racing
Popular: datona, Sega rally
Lesser known: test drive v rally, re-voltt

Adventure
Popular: shenmue
Lesser known: shadowman

Beat em up
Popular: dynamite cop, zombie revenge
Lesser known: soul fighter

Shumup:
Popular: ikaruga
Lesser known: zero gunner 2

Arcade
Popular: Sega bass fishing, virtua tennis,
House of the dead 2
Lesser known: expendable,

Unique
Popular: rez
Lesser known: flogian bros

Recommended games...

Shenmue 1 & 2, Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, NFL2k2, NHL2k2, Namco Museum, & Spider-Man. Spider-Man is interesting because there is a code that allows you to play hidden features and a bit of added game play including added humour and puns at the developers who made the game.

ONLINE GAMES:
AFO (with voice chat - an online first, sorry Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft), Maximum Pool, Quake 3 Arena, 4x4 Evo (cannot wait for this game night), and PBA Tour Bowling.

It is to note that PBA Tour Bowling was never released but was leaked complete with the ability to play it online. This was like getting a whole new Dreamcast game in 2016.

Shenmue 2 on the Xbox is one of my personal favorites. Is the Dreamcast version of it really that much better?

Everything is better on the Dreamcast. This is by virtue of it merely being on the Dreamcast.

(...Well, for me, anyway, running on the DC adds extra magic to a game.)

It doesn't matter if it is a commercial game, indie, homebrew, open-source, or a technical demo: everything is better on Dreamcast!

As for my recommendation, start importing games too! There are excellent releases for all regions. And if you don't mind Japanese, get all of the Sakura Wars games!

Nobody on here has mentioned Jet Set Radio yet, and that game is absolutely wonderful. One of the best on the console. That and Skies of Arcadia (which will run you a bit).
