I made a short video regarding a few pickups that I've made recently.

There were a few mistakes in this video... honestly it wasn't very well planned out and I did it at like 4am, lol. The next video will be a little better.

The beauty of having that read-write flash installed now is that I can install any firmware I like, and I don't need the flash mod anymore.

The firmware is region free too which I hope to show off in one of my next Dreamcast themed videos. I have a few things planned for these videos but finding the time to do them is hard.

One is including showing people how to back up VMUs to a file on an SD Card if they have an SD adapter. It'll definately save you the hassle of having to use that Gameshark.

yeah I tried the whole SD Card thing but for me it just ended up being a mess, the Dreamshell was slow/unresponsive and with the Gameshark... ok the win98 bit is a pig, but moving the files was Piss easy because I can just copy whole pages of saves to the "Massive Memory Card Plus" and back them up onto the pc. I always found the SD Card to be fairly cumbersome. I do have 1 and I use it every now and again when I wanna try out SD Isos from DCISOZone, such as modded Halflife engine games or homebrews like Beats Of Rage stuff, all the modded games like AVP etc, Emulators, I have them all working nice on my SD Card I just never end up using it much as I said I find the Dreamshell a bit clunky

Running homebrew apps to do that through Dreamshell is cumbersome but there's a much easier way.

You just pull down the console and type in a command and it saves the entire VMU image to a .bin file.

I must get that tutorial video up.

nice, be sure that you do! I'll look out for any tips you have on using the dreamshell more efficiently... to be honest I shall be PISSED if it turns out that its easier to do it that way than the hell I had setting up win98 (pissed at myself... not you lol)

It is... much... MUCH easier.

yeah but don't you have to copy all the files via the SD Card Dreamshell program?? that seemed to be a really long drawn out process... The move of my files to the Win98se pc was REALLY easy once I got the win98se pc working that is lol, I mean I was just able to use nice, responsive keyboard and mouse to save and name all the files, rather than the piss poor response of the controller in the menus... still as I said I'll be very interested to see what its like when you get a vid done

Actually the only way to do it is by calling up the console on Dreamshell and you can only do that when you have the Dreamcast's keyboard hooked up.

It's like making an iso image only you're making an image of the entire VMU and you can then save it to the SD card. Takes all of a few seconds. You can do this for multiple VMs in one go too.

Reflashing files back onto the VMU is just as easy too.

At least that way you can then move all of your to a modern PC for archival purposes.

so if you do that can you move individual memory card files around or is it an image of a memory card and thats it? Can you tell whats on it?
